Staff Engineer

Staff Firmware Engineer – Location: Cardiff, UK Job ID: 49066 A Staff Firmware Engineer will design, implement and debug embedded firmware and cryptographic solutions for RFID access control products. The role involves working in small, Agile teams across the product lifecycle, collaborating with cross‑functional colleagues both onsite and overseas, and occasionally traveling. Responsibilities Design and implement embedded firmware and test solutions in C and C#.

Develop cryptographic solutions and support related design documentation. Debug embedded systems and perform hands‑on firmware maintenance. Take ownership of technical design for moderate‑complexity projects with minimal oversight.

Communicate technical decisions through design documents, white papers and internal presentations. Collaborate effectively with Product, Design, Analytics and other cross‑functional teams. Qualifications & Experience Engineering degree or equivalent experience. 7+ years of industry experience in embedded firmware development.

Ability to translate product software requirements considering hardware capabilities. Experience mentoring other engineers in low‑level firmware or high‑level software design. Strong command of embedded C programming.

Experience with version control, TDD and CI/CD pipelines. Knowledge of security / SSDL principles and capability of solving related issues. Demonstrated experience managing firmware/software development progress.

Additional Beneficial Skills Smart Card ISO7816 and RFID ISO14443/15593 protocols. Programming with C#. I2C, SPI and USB low‑level protocols.

Cryptographic code development. Jenkins, NUnit and CMock unit testing frameworks. Bluetooth Low Energy protocols.
