Job Description

Caring for nearly 220,000 patients each year, Rockyview General Hospital provides a full range of acute and outpatient services with more than 600 inpatient beds. Located in Southwest Calgary and overlooking the scenic shores of the Glenmore Reservoir, the hospital offers an agile and collaborative environment dedicated to exceptional patient care. As the Unit Manager, you will provide operational and people leadership for one of Alberta's busiest surgical programs.

You will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the Operating Room and Minor OR, supporting safe, effective, and patient‑centered care while fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement. Your role involves working in partnership with physicians, clinical leaders, educators, and interdisciplinary teams to lead initiatives that enhance patient flow, optimize surgical capacity, improve staff engagement, and support strategic priorities across Surgical Services and Acute Care Alberta. You must be able to navigate complex healthcare environments, support change‑management initiatives, and inspire teams through periods of growth and transformation.

Excellence in communication, relationship building, and commitment to quality, safety, and operational excellence are critical. Key responsibilities include hiring, orienting, supervising, coaching, and evaluating staff; supporting professional development; managing performance; and applying human‑resource practices and collective agreements. You will support surgical flow, optimize operating‑room utilization, and ensure the delivery of safe, efficient, evidence‑informed care in collaboration with physicians, anesthesia providers, and interdisciplinary teams.

You will lead the implementation of standards of practice, quality and safety initiatives, change‑management strategies, and process improvements that enhance patient outcomes, staff engagement, and operational performance. Required Qualifications Graduation from a recognized Bachelor of Nursing degree program and Perioperative Certificate from an accredited program. Active registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta.

Minimum three (3) years of recent Operating Room experience. Minimum three (3) years of management and/or leadership experience within a healthcare setting within the past five (5) years. Demonstrated knowledge of perioperative nursing standards, surgical workflows, and patient safety principles.

Strong leadership, communication, conflict resolution, and team‑building skills. Proven ability to lead change, manage competing priorities, and support staff in a complex healthcare environment. Experience with budgeting, workforce planning, performance management, and operational oversight.

Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient‑centered care, and continuous learning. Proficiency with Connect Care OpTime and Microsoft Office applications. Additional Required Qualifications Certification in quality improvement methodologies such as Lean or Six Sigma.

Completion of leadership development programs or management training. Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree in nursing, Health Administration, Leadership, or a related field. Experience and understanding of Surgical Booking process. #J-18808-Ljbffr
