Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Veterinary Surgeon role based at The Vet Spectrum Animal & Bird Clinic in Kolkata. The Veterinary Surgeon will perform routine and advanced surgical procedures on small animals and birds, including pre-operative evaluation, surgery, and post-operative care.
Daily responsibilities include conducting clinical examinations, diagnosing illnesses, prescribing and administering medication, and providing preventive care such as vaccinations and health check-ups. The role involves interpreting laboratory results, collaborating with support staff for diagnostic workups, and maintaining accurate medical records. The Veterinary Surgeon will also counsel pet caregivers on treatment plans, post-operative care, nutrition, and general pet wellbeing, while contributing to the clinicβs protocols and continuous quality improvement.
Qualifications Strong clinical skills in Veterinary Surgery and Veterinary Medicine, with the ability to perform a range of surgical and medical procedures safely and independently. Proficiency in Medicine and Laboratory Skills, including diagnostics, interpretation of lab reports, and evidence-based treatment planning. Demonstrated capability in Pet Care, focusing on compassionate handling, pain management, preventive care, and client education.
Recognized veterinary degree (e.g., BVSc or MVSc) and valid registration with the appropriate veterinary council or licensing body. Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary clinical team. Ability to manage a busy caseload, prioritize tasks, and maintain detailed and accurate medical records.
Previous experience in small animal and avian practice or internship in a clinical setting is highly beneficial. Commitment to ongoing professional development and adherence to ethical standards.
