About the role

The Technical Sales Manager is responsible for providing specialist product knowledge, technical support and category insight within designated Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) product areas, supporting sales growth, customer confidence and compliant product selection.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in a technical product, category, sales support or product specialist role.
  • Experience within the PPE, safety, industrial distribution, workwear or related sectors.
  • Strong commercial and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to build credibility with customers, suppliers and internal stakeholders through sound technical knowledge.
  • Ability to understand technical product specifications and translate them into customer solutions.
  • Excellent presentation, communication and influencing skills.
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Willingness to travel extensively throughout the UK, with occasional overseas travel for trade shows, exhibitions and supplier or industry events.
  • Specialist knowledge of Footwear, Head & Face Protection, or Hand Protection (Gloves).
  • Understanding of relevant PPE regulations, standards and workplace safety requirements.
  • Experience supporting field sales teams with technical product expertise.

Duties and Responsibilities

Key Rosponsibilities
  • Provide technical product guidance and category expertise to support customer requirements and sales opportunities.
  • Act as a product specialist for assigned PPE categories, supporting accurate product selection and solution recommendations.
  • Support the sales team with product comparisons, technical information and guidance on relevant standards and applications.
  • Assist with customer meetings, presentations, site visits, product trials and wearer assessments where technical input is required.
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of products, standards, legislation, industry developments and competitor activity.
  • Support the resolution of product related technical queries, challenges and customer concerns.
Category Leadership
  • Act as the internal and external category specialist for the designated PPE product area of either Footwear, Head & Face Protection, or Hand Protection (Gloves).
  • Maintain expert knowledge of products, market trends, legislation, standards and emerging technologies relevant to the category.
  • Support the development and execution of category growth strategies aligned to Company objectives.
  • Identify opportunities to expand the category across existing and prospective customers.
  • Provide insights on competitor activity, market trends and customer requirements to inform business decisions.
Sales Growth & Business Development
  • Support category sales and margin growth by providing timely technical input to customer and sales opportunities.
  • Work collaboratively with Area Sales Managers and account owners to identify category opportunities and support conversion.
  • Support product launches, campaigns and category initiatives in collaboration with Sales, Marketing and suppliers.
  • Identify customer needs and recommend appropriate PPE solutions that improve safety, compliance and value.
  • Develop and maintain a strong pipeline of category and account opportunities.
Technical Support & Sales Enablement
  • Serve as the primary technical resource for the area sales team within the assigned product category.
  • Deliver product training, technical guidance and customer presentations.
  • Support customer site visits, product trials, wearer assessments and solution recommendations.
  • Assist in resolving technical queries and product related issues.
  • Work closely with suppliers and manufacturers to ensure technical expertise remains current and best practice is shared across the sales organisation.
  • Support in the development of technical products.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Management
  • Build strong working relationships across Area Sales Managers and the wider Company.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to maximise category opportunities, promotional activity and customer engagement.
  • Support cross functional projects that improve customer experience and commercial performance.
  • Represent the business at customer events, exhibitions, trade shows, industry forums and supplier meetings, including occasional overseas events where required.
Reporting & Performance Management
  • Maintain accurate CRM records, sales forecasts and activity reports.
  • Monitor category performance against agreed KPIs and growth objectives.
  • Provide regular updates on account development, pipeline activity and market opportunities.
  • Contribute to annual sales planning and budgeting processes.

Package and Benefits

  • Full time working hours are fixed between 8.30am and 5.30pm and totalling 37.5 hours per week with a 30 minute unpaid lunch break.

The Technical Sales Manager plays a key role in strengthening the business' technical capability, supporting customer confidence and helping the sales organisation deliver compliant, value-led PPE solutions across designated product categories.
