Position Information Tamworth South Public School is seeking a dedicated and passionate Special Education Teacher to join our team. We have an enrolment of 505 wonderful students consisting of 50% Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students and 15% English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EALD) students. We have five special education classes.

These include an Early Intervention class, a senior Intellectual Moderate class, a Multicategory class, a Behaviour Class and a Junior Intellectual Moderate class. The successful candidate will work with students in our Behaviour Class. They will ensure that each student reaches their full potential through tailored support and instruction.

Therefore, we are looking for an exemplary classroom teacher with strong collaborative communication skills, a deep understanding of current best practices in special education, inclusive teaching strategies, an understanding of developmental disabilities, learning difficulties, behavioural challenges and knowledge of relevant curriculum adaptations.

Specific Selection Criteria Approval to teach

1. Approval to teach Special Education and / or demonstrated successful experience teaching students with complex needs related to intellectual, physical, communication and mental health (including emotional disturbance, behaviour disorder, trauma) disabilities, autism and sensory processing.


2. Adapt and deliver curriculum and teaching strategies to meet diverse learning styles and challenges. Experience in developing and implementing Individualised Education Programs (IEPs), Health Care Plans and / or Behaviour Plans for students. Demonstrates a strong passion and a restorative approach in supporting students with behavioural needs to engage in their learning.


3. Proven ability to promote social skills, support emotional regulation, and maintain a safe, structured learning environment. Demonstrated patience, empathy, and calmness in demanding situations. Collaborates effectively with families and professionals to foster partnerships and enhance holistic student support and outcomes.

Conditions An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.

The commencement date for this position will be day 1 of the 2027 school year.
