About This Role

1st & 2nd Grade Teaching Assistant: St. John Neumann Academy (SJNA) is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to support both our 1st and 2nd Grade classrooms. Overview: The Teaching Assistant will work closely with both 1st and 2nd Grade teachers to support instruction, daily routines, and classroom management. The ideal candidate is organized, flexible, and passionate about working with children.

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:45 a.m.–2:45 p.m.

This position follows the SJNA academic calendar (August–May).

• During the morning, assist with small group instruction and student support in 1st Grade to help each student master assignments and to reinforce learning concepts presented by teacher.
• During the afternoon, provide direct instruction in 2nd Grade for Math, Science, and Social Studies.
• Support teachers with grading, classroom organization, and preparation of instructional materials.
• Help supervise students during lunch and recess, hallways, and during transitions.
• Foster a positive, respectful, and Christ-centered classroom environment.

• Experience working with children in a school, tutoring, or similar setting is preferred.
• Strong communication, organizational, and collaboration skills
• College coursework or a degree in education or a related field is a plus.
• A Virginia teaching license is not required — this role is a great fit for retired educators or individuals with relevant experience.
