Job Description

North Cheshire and Mersey NHS Foundation Trust (WHH) Staff Nurse The closing date is 26 May 2026 PIU is a busy day unit with patients attending for pre‑planned procedures and treatments for specialities including gastro, rheumatology, and haematology, which includes the administration of systemic anticancer therapy treatments and monoclonal antibody treatments. The successful candidate will be expected to work as part of the PIU team and liaise with a range of professionals to ensure patients receive the highest standards of care and support whilst on PIU. All interviews will take place face to face due to skills assessment.

Main duties of the job Work within a multidisciplinary team to provide an optimum level of care to the local population. Recognises and responds appropriately to urgent and emergency situations. Maintain clear accurate records of all patient interventions.

Communicate effectively with patients, carers, and colleagues on a range of factual information and overcome any barriers to understanding. Communicate effectively with patients and visitors by showing courtesy at all times, answering enquiries within the limits of the role and referring more complex enquiries to appropriate staff. Listen sensitively to patients and visitors who may be anxious or distressed and respond with sensitivity and empathy.

Job responsibilities PIU is a Green Accredited area, and all staff are expected to meet the high standards of the ward. As a staff nurse in PIU you would be expected to uphold the high standards we have both clinically, and with professional attitude.

Working on PIU is an exciting opportunity to enhance your current clinical skills set with the addition of skills in administration of systemic anticancer therapies, monoclonal antibodies, and procedures such as venesections. This is in addition to caring for patients in an environment that allows for positive rapport and relationships to be formed with the patients, to ensure we are proving the best care and provide the best experience for patients attending for their treatments. Person Specification Experience Experience working in a similar hospital environment.

Experience in IV cannulation and drug administration. PIU / haematology experience. PICC line management.

Qualifications NMC Registered nurse. Mentorship / Teaching. Systemic Anti Cancer Therapy (SACT) administration certificate.

Skills Competent in venepuncture & cannulation. Able to deal with sensitive issues with tact and diplomacy. Organisational skills.

Evidence of personal development. Monoclonal antibody competency. Understanding of interpretation of blood results.

Knowledge Use of IT systems such as lornenzo / ICE. Emotional Resilience due to working with patients with life limiting/terminal conditions.
