Go back University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust Staff Nurse The closing date is 10 May 2026 Staff Nurse (Band 5) - Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre (BHOC) The Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre (BHOC) is the regional specialist centre for Oncology, Haematology and Palliative Care in the South West. We are delighted to offer Band 5 Staff Nurse opportunities across our clinical areas. Our inpatient wards, Same Day Emergency Care centre, and Chemotherapy Day Unit provide an excellent platform to specialise, broaden experience and develop a rewarding nursing career in cancer care.

We would love to hear from newly qualified nurses and experienced Band 5's; we have roles to suit all levels of experience and aspiration. At application or interview, you will be able to state a preferred clinical area, while also benefiting from opportunities to work across services, with different staff groups, and rotate as part of your development. Please watch the below video to learn more about BHOC and what this exemplary centre can offer: Main duties of the job We are able to offer positions within the following areas: Ward D603 – Specialist Haematology and Oncology Inpatient Ward and Teenage and Young Adult Inpatient Ward (D601).

Ward D703 – Combined Haematology and Stem Cell Transplant Ward. Ward D701 – Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) & Rapid Access Unit. Ward D502 – Chemotherapy Day Unit (Hospital & Community Satellites).

Ward D501 – Oncology and Haematology Outpatients Department. Working Across Services We can offer you a supportive package of opportunities for development: Experience across inpatient, ambulatory, emergency care and day case settings. Development of skills specific to Haematology and oncology along with a wide range of highly transferable clinical skills relevant to any onwards career progression.

Exposure to the full cancer pathway, from acute presentation to treatment delivery to end of life. Clear progression routes and support to develop into specialist, clinical research or senior nursing and advanced practice roles. Previous experience of speciality.

Experience of taking charge. Skills and Abilities Good basic level of English language demonstrated through effective written and verbal communication skills. Ability to solve problems and use initiative.

Ability to develop own clinical skills and a willingness to participate in continuing professional development. Competency in medication administration including IV drug administration or willingness to undergo training. Basic IT skills (Microsoft packages).

Ability to take the lead, initiate and ensure appropriate action in response to the deteriorating patient. Interpersonal skills – Calm – Supportive – Motivated – Professional. Willingness to develop teaching skills.

Able to prioritise and meet deadlines. Able to manage difficult situations. Awareness of audit & research.

Self‑motivated. A team player. Recognition of own limits.

Flexible working practices for 24 hour service. General good health, able to work on feet for long periods. Aware that the role can be stressful and emotional at times.

Supportive. Respectful. Qualifications and Training Current NMC Registration.

Training Qualification or equivalent experience.
