We have a range of Band 5 positions across our expanding and reconfiguring Leicester Children’s Hospital.
The Children’s Hospital Reconfiguration Project is part of the £450 million investment received by Leicester Hospitals that has already relocated the Paediatric East Midlands Congenital Heart Centre and ECMO service from Glenfield Hospital to the Leicester Royal Infirmary (LRI) site. We are now entering the second phase which is to create a new age-appropriate and purpose built environment bringing together all paediatric services in a standalone and fully integrated Children’s Hospital at the LRI to serve the population of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland and the East Midlands network. Applicants will possess UK NMC registration or be on an approved university degree programme or an OSCE programme working towards UK NMC registration, and due to qualify within the coming month.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities Responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating programmes of evidence-based nursing care to a group of patients. Assisting and contributing in the management and organisation of a ward / clinical area. Co-ordinate, organise and prioritise the work of the nursing team on a day-to-day basis.
Supervise others and participate in their education and development. Contribute to the development of services, new ways of working and time implementation of change. Maximise the effective and efficient use of clinical, physical and financial resources.
Monitor and maintain health, safety and security of self and others. Act as a professional and clinical role model to all staff, patients, carers and the public at all times. Maintain effective and efficient communication with the Ward/Unit Manager and members of the multi-disciplinary team on issues related to patient care and organisation of nursing teams.
Act in a professional manner and ensure self and ward staff adhere to the UHL Uniform policy at all times. Deputise as appropriate for the Ward/Unit Manager or Deputy Ward/Unit Manager. Continuing education, professional and personal development Develop own skills and knowledge and contribute to the development of others.
Undertake the Trust Corporate and Clinical Management Group specific Induction and competency programmes. Ensure own compliance and compliance of others with regard to mandatory training and NMC Professional re-registration requirements. Responsible for maintaining up-to-date skills, knowledge and competence and awareness of professional issues.
Undertake specialist education training as required that will allow health care to be delivered to the user through new ways of working. Actively promote and participate in Clinical Supervision/Mentorship or equivalent support mechanisms. Evidence of Continuing Professional development or evidence of reflective profile Willingness to undertake new clinical practices, education and training that will enhance service delivery (Adult RN and Learning Disability RNs will be considered) Has successfully completed a previous NMC Approved Teaching and Assessing or Practice Assessor programme or equivalent Clinical Skills, Knowledge and Ability Good basic understanding of the importance of delivering high quality clinical nursing care Demonstrates knowledge of professional and NHS local and national nursing strategies and priorities Demonstrates understanding of quality and change and the importance of new ways of working Communication and relationship skills Demonstrates the ability to communicate well in a variety of settings with patients of all cultures and those with differing levels of understanding Understands the importance of team working and their role within the multi-disciplinary team Ability to develop and maintain effective interpersonal skills and relationships with colleagues across the health setting Able to maintain accurate patient records Able to present factual written and verbal information and deal with questions Basic Knowledge of IT UHL is an equal opportunities employer.

The Trust will pay for the check initially and the money will then be deducted from your salary over a three month period commencing on your first month's payment. The current price of a check is £38 for an enhanced and £18 for a standard check. Due to the current Covid pandemic we have introduced a staff risk assessment into our pre-employment process.
This now forms part of the mandatory pre-employment checks that will be carried out if you receive a conditional offer. The risk assessment is intended to ensure you are able to safely perform your duties in any of our work areas, and if you have been identified as being particularly vulnerable to coronavirus.
