Job Summary 24 hours per week mental health nurse on Stanley Ward, a 22 bed male acute ward for adults of working age. Working within Wakefield Acute Pathway at Fieldhead Hospital, supported by Consultant Psychiatrist, Ward Manager, Clinical Lead Nurse, Deputy Ward Managers and Matron. Eligibility & Sponsorship This role meets Skilled Worker sponsorship criteria, but the Trust does not offer sponsorship for this short‑term, part‑time contract. Applicants must have the right to work in the UK or hold an eligible visa. Responsibilities Work flexibly as part of an integrated team to provide high‑quality care and treatment both individually and in purposeful group programmes.

Assess, plan, implement and evaluate treatment for defined service users within the pathway. Utilise core nursing and specialist skills as primary nurse. Provide professional support and advice to team, service users and carers.

Collaborate with other teams within and outside the organisation. Oversee and support junior staff in treatment and care implementation. Support management team in their duties.

Maintain accurate care plans and effective documentation. Keep statistical records and contribute to evaluations. Develop relationships with consultants, teams, voluntary agencies and carer involvement.

Maintain high standards of care, share knowledge and mentor junior staff. Participate in clinical and managerial supervision. Identify training needs and contribute to staff education.

Initiate and support clinical change, promote equality, diversity and rights. Manage resources, including medication procurement and monitoring. Key Result Areas Workload Management – cover shifts, act as shift coordinator, prioritise workload, support fully autonomously as primary nurse.

Communication – maintain care plans, documentation, statistical records, partner with stakeholders, encourage service‑user involvement. Human Resources – improve standards, guide junior staff, provide supervision, participate in induction and reflective forums. Resource Management – plan cover, manage time/resource, respect budget, recruit junior staff if appropriate.

Decision Making – perform risk assessments, implement plans, identify training needs. Initiating Change – promote health, safety, equality, clinical governance, best practice, innovation. Person Specification Experience (Essential) Systematic care approach: assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation.

Awareness of the Care Programme Approach. Experience with mental health needs or learning disability populations. Knowledge of key worker / primary nurse system.

Multidisciplinary team working. Collaborative working within recovery‑based interventions. Clinical or professional supervision.

Experience (Desirable) Implementation of the Care Programme Approach. Leading and supervising junior or unqualified staff. Experience with risk assessment models (e.g., HCR‑20).

Using risk tools in clinical settings. Training (Essential) Mandatory training in violence and aggression management. Nursing mentorship training.

Qualifications (Essential) Registered Nurse, Level 1, on the appropriate register. Qualifications (Desirable) Post‑basic qualifications. CBT/PSI.

Mentoring experience or demonstrable skills. Values and Behaviours (Essential) Commitment to Trust core values and behavioural standards. Physical Attributes Ability to work various shifts, including nights. Good sickness record over previous 2 years. Special Knowledge and Skills Strong verbal and written communication.

Therapeutic working with individuals or groups. Prevention and management of violence and aggression. Staff leadership, coaching, mentoring.

Work without direct supervision, flexible, willing to travel across the Trust.
