Role Description
The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting multiple client engagements by performing day-to-day accounting functions, maintaining accurate financial records, and assisting with the preparation of timely and reliable financial information. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, client-focused environment.
Responsibilities
- Record journal entries and maintain accurate general ledger activity.
- Perform bank, credit card, and balance sheet account reconciliations.
- Maintain client bookkeeping records and ensure data accuracy.
- Assist with monthly, quarterly, and year‑end close processes.
- Prepare supporting schedules and financial reports.
- Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions as assigned.
- Review financial transactions for completeness and accuracy.
- Investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies.
- Organize and maintain accounting documentation in accordance with firm standards.
- Communicate with clients to obtain supporting documentation and resolve outstanding accounting matters.
- Collaborate with senior team members to improve accounting processes and internal controls.
- Support audit and tax engagements by preparing requested accounting schedules and documentation.
- Perform other accounting‑related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field.
- English (written and verbal) is required.
- Knowledge of U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP) is required.
- Experience with bookkeeping, account reconciliations, and general ledger maintenance.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.
- Experience with QuickBooks or similar accounting software.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to manage multiple client engagements and meet deadlines.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a public accounting firm.
- Experience working with nonprofit organizations.
- Familiarity with cloud‑based accounting platforms and document management systems.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team.
