Job Summary
The Soldering Technician is responsible for the assembly, soldering, inspection, repair, and testing of electronic assemblies, printed circuit boards (PCBs), wiring harnesses, and electro-mechanical components used in aerospace, defence, UAV, and industrial electronic systems. The role requires adherence to IPC standards, ESD procedures, and company Quality Management System (AS9100D/ISO 9001).
Key Responsibilities
• Perform hand soldering and de-soldering of through-hole (THT), surface mount (SMT), and fine-pitch electronic components.
• Assemble and solder PCBs according to engineering drawings, BOMs, assembly instructions, and work orders.
• Fabricate, terminate, and solder cable assemblies and wiring harnesses.
• Inspect solder joints using magnification equipment to ensure compliance with IPC workmanship standards.
• Repair defective PCB assemblies by replacing damaged components.
• Perform continuity, insulation resistance, and functional testing of assembled products.
• Identify and report manufacturing defects, component shortages, and process issues.
• Maintain traceability of components and production records.
• Follow ESD-safe handling procedures during assembly and testing.
• Ensure proper use and maintenance of soldering stations, hot air rework stations, microscopes, and test equipment.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment (5S).
• Support production, engineering, and quality teams during prototype and production builds.
• Comply with AS9100D quality procedures and documentation requirements.
Required Qualifications
• ITI / Diploma in Electronics, Electrical, Instrumentation, or equivalent.
• 2–5 years of experience in electronic assembly and soldering.
Technical Skills
• Excellent hand soldering skills for SMT and THT components.
• Experience with fine-pitch ICs, QFP, SOIC, SOT, and connector soldering.
• Knowledge of PCB assembly techniques.
• Experience in cable and harness soldering.
• Ability to read schematics, assembly drawings, and wiring diagrams.
• Familiarity with multimeters, oscilloscopes, continuity testers, and power supplies.
• Knowledge of ESD protection requirements.
• Understanding of IPC-A-610 and IPC/WHMA-A-620 workmanship standards.
• Experience with hot-air rework stations and soldering microscopes.
Preferred Skills
• IPC-A-610 Certified IPC Specialist (CIS) and/or IPC/WHMA-A-620 certification.
• Experience in aerospace, defence, UAV, or medical electronics manufacturing.
• Experience with conformal coating and PCB cleaning processes.
• Basic understanding of quality documentation and traceability.
