Software Development Engineer, Appstore Commerce The Appstore technology teams connect millions of customers to apps and content they love. We enable this on a varied set of devices including Fire TV, Fire Tablets, Android devices, Windows 11, and automotive devices. We delight customers through selection, world‑class customer experience, and value for their money.

We are looking for a Software Development Engineer to help develop scalable software solutions and services for handling the Commerce experience. The ideal candidate should be willing to design scalable and low‑latency systems and work across technologies.

Our ideal candidate will have a deep, well‑rounded technical background in current software disciplines, mastery of software fundamentals, and be willing to challenge technical system designs, drive engineering decisions, and strive for the right developer and customer experience. To be successful you’ll need experience with Java or another modern language, service architectures, databases, and handling scale.
You should have a strong grasp of architecture and advanced engineering principles and design patterns. You must be a fast, efficient coder and make coding and design decisions with multiple simultaneous dimensions in mind. You will be part of the technical leadership team of Amazon Appstore development center, India, and have the chance to lead product architecture and team‑building efforts.
Key Job Responsibilities You will be responsible for the architecture, design, and delivery of critical distributed systems—modernizing and scaling them as needed. You will influence the team on the right technical direction, make key technology decisions, coach and develop engineers, and improve the overall maintainability of these systems. You will also drive innovations and think big to bring step‑function changes from the status quo.
A Day in the Life Engage with senior engineers to review key designs and architecture. Review customer and operational metrics, monitor system health. Problem‑solve complex and ambiguous problems.
Code critical and complex modules. Influence senior leaders and propose architecture to support future needs. About the Team In Appstore, “We entertain, and delight, hundreds of millions of people across devices with a vast selection of relevant apps, games, and services by making it trivially easy for developers to deliver.” The Appstore team enables the customer–developer flywheel on devices by allowing developers to seamlessly launch and manage their apps and in‑app content on Amazon.
It helps customers discover, buy, and engage with these apps on Fire TV, Fire Tablets, and mobile devices. We build technologies that span device software, high‑scale services, and efficient tools for developers. Basic Qualifications 3+ years of non‑internship professional software development experience. 2+ years of non‑internship design or architecture experience (design patterns, reliability, and scaling) of new and existing systems.
Experience programming with at least one software programming language. Preferred Qualifications 3+ years of full software development life cycle experience, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations. Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent.
