Software Developer Term

Martello Technologies isseekinganexperienced and motivated Software Developer to join our dynamic team for a 3-month term. The ideal candidate will have experience in software development, with abackground in Java.

The successful candidate will implement, document, automate and deliver secure enterprise SaaS and on-prem solutions with consideration of industry standards and best practices. This is an Ottawa based role and you will predominantly be working from our office location.

Your responsibilitieswill include:

• Writingquality and testable codeadheringto our defined standards.
• Remediating security vulnerabilities across our Java stack, including CVE fixes in third-party dependencies.
• Diagnosing and resolving PostgreSQL performance issues - long-running queries, lock contention and storage bloat.
• Fixing device-specific collection defects across the Mitel estate.
• Implementing and testing IPv6 support across devices, collectors, the UI, OVA network configuration and client-server communication.

AI Competencies (Required)

Given the pace and scope of this work, it will be expected to use AI tooling as a core part of the development workflow.

This role requires:

• Practical, day-to-day experience using AI coding assistants (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Cursor) to accelerate implementation, debugging, and code review.
• Ability to critically evaluate AI-generated code for correctness, security, and performance before publishing for review.
• Comfort using AI tools to speed up root-cause analysis, log and data triage, and test-case generation.
• Effective prompt construction for engineering tasks such as specification, code generation, refactoring, documentation, etc.
• Awareness of responsible AI practices in an enterprise setting, including data-handling and IP/security constraints on what can be shared with external AI tools, and verifying AI output before shipping.

Desiredskills andexperienceinclude:

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or engineering.
• 5+ years' experienceas a software developer.
• Java, Spring Framework (MVC/Security), Hibernate/JPA, Apache Tomcat, shell scripting.
• Ruby components, nginx, RRD time-series files.
• Protocols: HTTP, HTML, JavaScript, CSS3, Angular.
• Networking and collection protocols such as SNMP, SMDR, SSH, REST, LDAP and AD/OAuth2.
• Ubuntu OVA builds, Docker, APT package mirroring, cloud-init, container upgrade tooling.
