\nWe are seeking an experienced Senior Tailings Engineer to join Hatch’s Tailings and Mine Waste Management practice. This role is suited to a highly motivated professional with strong technical capability and a client-facing approach, who is passionate about delivering high-quality solutions and contributing to the ongoing growth of the practice. You will play a key role in delivering complex tailings and mine waste management projects, while supporting business development and mentoring team members.
Working within a global, multidisciplinary team, you will contribute across the full lifecycle of projects from early-stage studies through to detailed design, operational support, and closure planning. This position focuses on the design, management, and delivery of integrated tailings, mine waste, and mine water solutions. You will lead and contribute to multidisciplinary teams, support project execution and strategy, and provide senior technical oversight across a diverse portfolio of work.
Key Responsibilities\n- \n
- Coordinate and manage multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated tailings, mine waste, and mine water management solutions \n
- Lead studies including site selection, dewatering technologies, subsurface investigations, and laboratory testing programs for material characterisation \n
- Oversee transport, conveyance, and disposal studies including embankment design, deposition modelling, capping, and closure planning \n
- Contribute to surface water management design, dam break analyses, and flood routing assessments \n
- Support project execution through material take-offs, scheduling, and conceptual CapEx and OpEx cost estimation \n
- Prepare and review technical documentation including reports, design basis memoranda, specifications, and engineering drawings \n
- Provide senior technical review and guidance across tailings and mine waste management projects \n
- Support business development activities including proposals, tenders, and client engagement \n
You are a degree-qualified Civil or Geotechnical Engineer with extensive experience in tailings management, gained through consulting or operations within the mining sector. You bring well-rounded expertise across tailings design, operations support, and closure planning, with a strong understanding of project delivery from pre-feasibility through to execution. You are a confident communicator with proven leadership capability, able to mentor and develop engineers, designers, and technicians while building strong client relationships.
You demonstrate sound judgement, strong safety leadership, and the ability to manage competing priorities in complex environments. Experience in integrated tailings facilities, mine water management, or mine closure is essential, along with a willingness to travel as required to support project delivery.
