Senior R&D Engineer

Job Title: Senior R&D Engineer

Location: Shannon, Co. Clare, Ireland

Reporting to: CTO

Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent, Onsite

The Opportunity

As a senior R&D engineer, you'll be central to our innovation and advanced research activities. This role involves deep technical engagement, from early-stage design and technology evaluation, to performing critical electrical tests and ensuring adherence to our stringent quality standards. You'll collaborate closely with design engineers, playing a crucial role in delivering robust, defect-free products to market.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, develop, test and troubleshoot analogue and digital electronic circuits
  • Own schematic capture and printed circuit board design
  • Develop embedded firmware for microcontroller-based systems
  • Identify and explore early-stage, exploratory, and pre-product technologies for technical readiness
  • Document, communicate, and present research outcomes to internal R&D, product development, and strategy teams
  • Maintain compliance with internal quality, safety, and documentation standards.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of test frameworks, tools, and processes.
  • Collaborate effectively across disciplines to improve test coverage and product quality.

Essential Qualifications & Skills

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in hardware and firmware development of embedded electronic products.
  • Good understanding of embedded systems, electronics, and measurement instrumentation.
  • Experience with test hardware design and hardware/software interfacing (e.g., serial, I²C, SPI, CAN).
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and documentation skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.

Advantageous Skills

  • Degree in Electronic Engineering (or related discipline) desirable.
  • Experience in Altium schematic capture and PCB layout tools
  • C and Python programming experience
  • Comfortable working on main's power products.
  • Proficiency in source code control systems (e.g., Bitbucket, SourceTree, GitHub).
