Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced Senior Project Manager to lead the end-to-end delivery of Data Modernisation and Cloud Migration programmes.

The role requires a strong understanding of cloud data platform delivery, including the migration of legacy and on-premises data platforms to modern Azure-based Lakehouse, Google CloudPlatform and analytics architectures.

The successful candidate will manage complex programmes covering assessment, ingestion, engineering, migration, transformation, data modelling, business intelligence, testing, deployment, cutover and hypercare.

You will be responsible for managing global clients, distributed delivery teams, project governance, commercials, risks, dependencies and delivery outcomes in a fully remote working environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Own and manage Data Modernisation and Cloud Migration projects from initiation through planning, execution, deployment, hypercare and closure.
• Lead the migration of legacy and on-premises data platforms to Microsoft Azure, Azure Databricks and Google Cloud Platform.
• Manage multiple workstreams covering data discovery, assessment, ingestion, data engineering, transformation, data modelling, migration, reporting and governance.
• Lead cross-functional teams comprising infra specialists, data architects, data engineers, business analysts, Power BI developers, testers and DevOps specialists.
• Facilitate project kick-offs, daily and weekly delivery meetings, steering committee meetings, workshops and executive checkpoints.
• Manage remote and geographically distributed teams working across different locations and time zones.
• Work closely with clients to understand business priorities, manage expectations and maintain alignment throughout the project lifecycle.
• Coordinate source-system discovery, data landscape assessment and migration planning activities.
• Manage migration waves, release plans, deployment schedules and production cutover activities.
• Identify, assess and manage project risks, assumptions, issues, dependencies and decisions.
• Maintain RAID logs, project plans, action trackers, decision logs and delivery status reports.
• Manage technical and business dependencies relating to environments, infrastructure, connectivity, security, access and source-system availability.
• Own the preparation, review and delivery tracking of Statements of Work.
• Manage project commercials, budgets, forecasts, resource utilisation, effort tracking and project profitability.
• Monitor delivery performance against agreed milestones, KPIs, acceptance criteria and business outcomes.
• Handle client escalations professionally and drive issues through to resolution.
• Ensure project documentation is complete, accurate and maintained throughout the engagement.
• Support proposals, estimations, resource planning, RFP responses and pre-sales discussions when required.
• Capture lessons learned and promote continuous improvement across project delivery.

Required Skills and Experience

• 8–12 years of overall project management experience.
• Significant experience managing Data Modernisation and Cloud Data Migration projects.
• Proven experience independently managing end-to-end migration programmes from legacy or on-premises platforms to Microsoft Azure.
• Experience managing multiple Azure Databricks and/or Google Cloud implementation or migration projects through to production deployment.
• Strong understanding of modern cloud data platform delivery and architecture.
• Strong understanding of data ingestion, data engineering, data transformation and data modelling workstreams.
• Strong understanding of data security, access management, governance and cloud environment dependencies.
• Experience managing DevOps, release management and environment promotion across development, testing and production environments.
• Experience managing multiple workstreams, vendors and complex delivery dependencies.
• Strong knowledge of Agile, Waterfall and Hybrid delivery methodologies.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively during UK or US business hours depending on project requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

• Project management certification such as PMP or PRINCE2.
• Microsoft Azure certification such as AZ-900.
• Databricks/Google Cloud accreditation or certification.
• Experience working in a technology consulting or professional services organisation.
• Experience participating in RFPs, proposals, estimations and pre-sales activities.
• Experience delivering cloud data transformation programmes for global customers.
• Exposure to Microsoft Azure, Fabric, GCP, Databricks Unity Catalog, data governance and self-service analytics.
• Exposure to AI, generative AI or Databricks AI and BI capabilities.
• Experience handling multi million dollar projects with hybrid team structure.
