Position Title: Senior Manager, Global Application Support & Engineering Enablement Location: Hybrid – Birmingham, AL Employment Type: Full‑Time Relocation Assistance: Yes Role Overview We are seeking a senior technology leader to oversee and continuously improve our global application support organization, which supports a broad portfolio of enterprise and mission‑critical applications across all business domains. This role is not a hands‑on coding position, but it requires deep technical credibility. The ideal candidate has personally built and delivered full‑stack applications earlier in their career and now excels at coaching engineers, reviewing designs, prioritizing work, resolving complex issues, and reducing technical debt.
You will lead a global, high‑performing application support team (10+ direct reports) spanning the US, Brazil, and India, and act as a key voice in identifying systemic technology issues, influencing architectural decisions, and driving continuous improvement across platforms. This is a high‑impact, highly autonomous leadership role with visibility across all technology stacks, business units, and executive stakeholders. What You’ll Do Global Team Leadership Lead, coach, and develop a global application support organization (FTEs and contractors) across multiple regions and time zones.
Set clear priorities, service expectations, and operational standards for application support engineers. Establish metrics, SLAs, and escalation models to ensure reliability, accountability, and predictable delivery. Technology Oversight & Problem Solving Serve as a technical escalation leader, guiding teams through complex application issues without personally writing production code.
Identify recurring pain points, root causes, and systemic weaknesses across the application landscape. Partner with engineering, architecture, and product teams to reduce technical debt and improve long‑term platform health. Architecture & Stakeholder Influence Provide input into application architecture and modernization decisions, informed by operational realities.
Negotiate priorities and solutions with internal teams and external vendors to balance speed, stability, and scalability. Act as a bridge between application support, engineering, product, and business stakeholders. Operational Excellence & Modernization Drive improvements in incident management, release readiness, change management, and post‑incident learning.
Champion automation, GenAI, and AI‑assisted support practices to increase productivity and reduce manual effort. Enable DevOps best practices and CI/CD alignment in partnership with platform and engineering teams. Delivery & Portfolio Management Oversee support for both custom‑built platforms (e.g., OMS) and enterprise SaaS solutions, including supply chain, CRM, finance, and integration platforms.
Ensure high availability and performance of Tier‑1 systems supporting order management, warehouse operations, inventory, payments, and customer engagement. What You Bring Experience & Leadership 12+ years of experience in enterprise application development and/or application support. Proven experience leading large onshore/offshore support teams (10+ direct reports).
Prior experience working within or leading teams at global IT services organizations (e.g., IBM, Infosys, TCS, Cognizant, Capgemini) is highly valued. Strong background in coaching engineers, reviewing solutions, and influencing technical decisions without being hands‑on. Technical Foundation (Must‑Have) Hands‑on engineering experience earlier in your career building full‑stack applications.
Strong understanding of: Java (Spring ecosystem preferred) JavaScript frameworks (React understanding required) Relational databases (SQL / DB2 or equivalent) Ability to quickly diagnose issues across frontend, backend, and database layers. Preferred Technical Exposure Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills. Comfortable operating at both deep technical and executive discussion levels.
Motivated by mentorship, process improvement, and building high‑trust teams. Strong sense of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement. Familiarity with DevOps, CI/CD, and cloud platforms (Azure, GCP).
