Senior Data Analyst - Financial Services (Contract)
Santiago Consult
Job Description
Senior Data Analyst — Financial Services — Contract (Remote, Brazil)
Santiago Consult is a UK-based data and AI consultancy. We build data platforms, pipelines and AI systems for clients across the UK and Europe, and we're expanding our delivery capability in Brazil.
We're building a network of senior contract data analysts with financial services experience, ready to bring onto client projects as they start. This is a talent pool ahead of upcoming engagements, so we want to talk to strong people now even if a project isn't live on day one.
The work
Financial analysis carries a different weight. Numbers have to reconcile, definitions have to hold up under scrutiny, and someone will always ask where a figure came from. You'd be working directly with the founder on client delivery — turning transactional and financial data into analysis that stands up.
Typical engagements involve:
- Analysing transactional, customer and product data across banking, payments or lending
- Building models in dbt on top of BigQuery or Snowflake
- Designing dashboards for finance, risk and operations teams
- Cohort, retention, churn and customer-value analysis
- Reconciliation, control and data-quality reporting
- Defining metrics rigorously and documenting them properly
- Presenting findings to client stakeholders, including senior and non-technical audiences
What we're looking for
- Analytical experience in financial services, banking, fintech, payments or insurance
- Strong SQL — window functions, complex joins, performance awareness
- Real analytical judgement: knowing which question matters, not just answering the one you were asked
- Experience with BigQuery or Snowflake in production
- dbt experience, or a solid grasp of analytics engineering practice
- A BI tool in anger — Looker, Power BI, Tableau, Metabase or similar
- Comfortable working in English with UK-based clients, including client-facing conversations
- Understanding that in financial data, "close enough" isn't
Nice to have
- Regulatory or management reporting experience
- Risk, fraud or credit analytics
- Python for analysis (pandas)
- Git and a review workflow
- Forecasting or predictive modelling
- Exposure to UK or European financial regulation
- Experience working in a consultancy or agency
Practical details
- Fully remote, contract basis (PJ)
- Project-based work, typically several weeks to several months
- Good overlap with UK hours (Brazil is 3–4 hours behind, so the working day lines up well)
- Paid in GBP or BRL, your preference
How to apply
Send your CV or LinkedIn profile, and please include:
1. Your day rate expectation (BRL or GBP — whichever you work in) — applications without a daily rate expectation won't be considered
2. A short note on one analysis you've done that changed what the business did — what you found, and what happened next
3. Your availability and current commitments
4. Whether you invoice as PJ
We read everything and reply either way.
