Location: Wakefield (commutable from Pontefract, Castleford, Barnsley, Dewsbury & surrounding areas) Salary: £150 – £250 per day (dependent on experience) Job Type: Full-time, Long-term / Permanent Opportunity Hours: Monday–Friday Start Date: ASAP / September 2026

We are recruiting an SEN Teacher for a specialist school in Wakefield, supporting students aged 11–19 with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Complex Learning Needs, Communication Difficulties, and Additional Educational Needs.

About the Role

As an SEN Teacher, you will:

  • Deliver engaging, differentiated lessons tailored to individual learning needs
  • Support students with Autism, Complex Needs, and Communication Difficulties
  • Create personalised learning experiences linked to EHCP outcomes
  • Promote communication, independence, and life skills development
  • Support emotional wellbeing and positive engagement in learning
  • Adapt teaching strategies to meet a wide range of learning styles and abilities
  • Work closely with Teaching Assistants, therapists, pastoral teams, and families
  • Create a structured, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment

What You’ll Be Teaching

The school supports students with a range of needs, including:

  • Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
  • Complex Learning Difficulties
  • Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN)
  • Sensory Processing Difficulties
  • Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD)
  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needsAdditional medical and developmental needs

Classes are small and highly supported, allowing staff to focus on personalised learning, communication development, and preparing students for adulthood.

What We’re Looking For

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/QTLS) or equivalent
  • Experience teaching within SEN, SEND, specialist, or mainstream settings
  • Passion for supporting students with Autism and Complex Needs
  • Strong classroom management and relationship-building skills
  • A patient, flexible, and nurturing approach
  • Commitment to inclusive education and student-centred learning
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team
