Job Description

School Nurse The closing date is 16 April 2026 Main duties of the job A number of exciting opportunities have arisen in the Wirral 0-19 service for SCPHN trained School Nurses. The successful candidate will have proven leadership, experience and knowledge of school nursing. You will work closely with education and social care to provide services in response to identified need, both public health and safeguarding, while working in partnership with Wirral Local Authority to advance the local children’s agenda.

School Nursing is a fast paced, dynamic and challenging service, and as a School Nurse you will be given the opportunity to demonstrate leadership whilst working within the public health, health promotion and safeguarding domains. You should be well organised, have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to communicate effectively with children and young people in school and other educational settings. You must be committed to working effectively both within a team and independently.

In-depth knowledge of current trends and developments within school nursing and the health agenda related to children’s services is essential. Qualifications RN (Adult or Child/RSCN) Postgraduate in Specialist Community Public Health Nursing – School Nursing or equivalent Motivational Interviewing trained Promotional Interviewing trained Experience and knowledge Experience of managing a School Nurse Caseload Evidence of continuing professional development Experience of leading the assessment, planning and evaluation of care Experience of integrated working Ability to use email, internet and word processing software Sound knowledge of safeguarding issues Skills and attributes Good verbal, non verbal and written communication skills Ability to work as part of a team and independently Effective interpersonal skills Ability to support and motivate staff Ability to support students in placements Access to a car for work purposes Commitment Vision Disclosure and Barring Service Check This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
