This role requires building and demonstrating in-depth technical knowledge of Independence support processes developed globally under EY Global Independence policies, aimed at safeguarding EY as an Independent auditor. The RMS team standardizes these processes and executes them on behalf of EY engagement teams. The candidate will coach, mentor and supervise a team of 10–30 members, resolve queries, liaise with Global Independence process owners and a range of stakeholders across countries and geographies, and contribute to GDS-wide priorities and initiatives.

Overview

RMS Independence is part of EY GDS and protects the organization from risks related to professional practice. The team provides coordinated advisory and assistance on independence, conflicts, compliance, regulatory, policy and security matters, and handles ethics-related queries and claims.

The role offers opportunities to work with global teams and stakeholders to strengthen the compliance framework and foster a culture of continuous improvement and client enablement.

Your key responsibilities

  • Technical Expertise
    • Act as a subject matter expert in Independence processes; interpret client structure, entity attributes, and relationships per EYG Independence policy.
    • Master internal Independence tools and finance systems.
    • Drive high-quality project outcomes by aligning with audit/pursuit team requirements and SOPs.
    • Perform secondary research using internal and external databases.
    • Facilitate and implement process changes with knowledge-sharing sessions.
    • Engage with engagement teams and stakeholders; communicate effectively with clients and senior leaders.
    • Develop and refine technical expertise; ensure process documents and SOPs are updated and approved.
    • Lead process training for new and existing team members.
    • Resolve service delivery issues using RCA and CAPA methodologies.
    • Conduct second-level audits for quality assurance.
    • Act as account manager for assigned accounts; coordinate with client teams to deliver high-quality outputs and client experience.
    • Evaluate current processes and propose AI-driven and emerging technology solutions to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
    • Meet or exceed defined individual and team KPIs.
  • Client Management
    • Maintain proactive communication with audit/pursuit teams on progress, issues, and scope/timeline changes.
    • Conduct client satisfaction surveys and implement improvements.
    • Demonstrate client-centricity; listen to client needs and maintain transparent communication.
    • Collaborate with Global Independence to implement process changes and improvements.
    • Develop conflict resolution and escalation strategies; monitor KPIs related to client management.
    • Serve as a point of contact between client teams and GDS functions for project coordination.
  • Operations Management
    • Oversee volume inflows, allocate resources, and ensure adherence to workflow protocols.
    • Contribute to financial planning and reporting for stakeholders.
    • Monitor and report KPIs for the team; participate in strategic initiatives.
  • People Management
    • Lead and manage a team of approximately 10–30 members; set expectations and provide feedback.
    • Foster engagement, development, and a healthy work-life balance; promote flexible working arrangements.

Qualifications

  • Master’s/post-graduate degree from a reputed institute.
  • 7–8 years of professional experience; relevant experience includes:
    • Compliance or secondary research in Big 4 or equivalent
    • Managing mid-size teams (10–20 members)
    • Experience in Risk Management/Independence preferred
    • Client interactions experience preferred
  • Analytical, interpersonal, and strong written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Understanding of company structures, ownership, audit and risk management concepts.
  • Experience with external secondary research and data analysis.

Technologies and Tools

  • MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, SharePoint).
  • Project management and analytics tools (e.g., Power BI); basic knowledge of lean methods (Value Stream Mapping, 5 Why, 5S) preferred.
  • Awareness of Gen-AI and future technologies.
