Respiratory Nurse Specialist

Job Overview This is an exciting opportunity for a band 6 nurse to join our well-established and supportive community team. You will care for respiratory patients in their place of residence and in clinics within Sandwell. A key part of your work is admission avoidance, responding to urgent referrals, and assessing and treating patients with the aim of avoiding an admission to hospital.

You will care for patients with asthma, COPD, bronchiectasis and fibrosis and will run oxygen and spirometry clinics and pulmonary rehabilitation classes across the Sandwell borough. The post holder will work on a rota basis to cover weekends and bank holidays and must have access to a vehicle for work purposes. Responsibilities Provide specialist clinical skills of a band 6 nurse within a multi-disciplinary team.

Deliver specialist assessment and treatment to patients with respiratory disease within a community setting. Work independently as an experienced and competent health care professional, collaborating with others to provide clinical care to those with long-term respiratory conditions. Be responsible for assessment, treatment and appropriate admissions, contributing to the safe management of patients within the community.

Actively participate in clinical professional development through regular training, support, clinical reasoning and peer review. Undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner. Provide respiratory expertise to colleagues, patients and carers through specialist advice and education.

Assist in providing clinical leadership to Band 5 nurses, physiotherapists and respiratory support workers through supervision, education and service development. Participate in evidence-based audit and research projects to further practice and make recommendations for changes in practice to improve service delivery, including the formulation and implementation of the service protocols. Requirements Band 6 nurse qualification and registration.
