Job Description
Research Engineering/ Scientist Assistant, Department of Biomedical Engineering Position open to all applicants. Weekly scheduled hours: 40 hours per week. FLSA status: exempt.
Earliest start date: immediately. Position duration: expected to continue until May 15, 2027. Location: UT MAIN CAMPUS (collaboration with Dell Seton Medical Center and Dell Children’s Medical Center).
Purpose The Translational Cardiovascular Imaging Group, led by Dr. Adam Bush, PhD, seeks a post‑baccalaureate research specialist to conduct translational medical imaging research focused on renal and cardiovascular physiology and disease. The role involves research, laboratory operations, and multidisciplinary collaboration.
Responsibilities Analyze physiologic, imaging, blood, and urine data in computational and wet‑lab settings. Conduct research involving MRI, ultrasound, and physiologic data acquisition in human subjects, including participant recruitment, screening, and informed consent processes. Assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of imaging study protocols.
Collect, process, and manage imaging and clinical data, including maintaining anonymized databases. Perform imaging studies, including evening, night, and/or weekend MRI sessions. Develop and implement data analysis tools using MATLAB and/or Python.
Prepare manuscripts and present research findings at scientific conferences. Perform imaging and mechanical testing on biological tissues (animal and human). Participate in weekly research meetings and contribute to project discussions.
Provide guidance and support to other laboratory members on related projects. Coordinate research activities in compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations. Maintain and prepare IRB protocols and regulatory documentation.
Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Biology, Neuroscience, or other related field. Demonstrated interest in physiology and translational medical imaging in humans. Experience with MATLAB and/or Python.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively. Professionalism and maturity when interacting with vulnerable patient populations.
Ability to pass a mandatory background check and drug screening. Preferred Qualifications Prior research experience in medical imaging or human subjects research. Experience with MRI and/or ultrasound data acquisition.
Wet lab experience (e.g., handling biological samples). Interest in pursuing medical school or graduate education; post‑baccalaureate candidates encouraged. Salary $45,000 base salary, with additional consideration depending on qualifications.
Working Conditions Work performed in laboratory, clinical, and office environments, including the UT Austin Main Campus, Dell Seton Medical Center, and Dell Children’s Medical Center. Responsibilities may involve interaction with human subjects, handling biological samples, and operating imaging equipment. Work Shift Primarily Monday‑Friday; additional evening, night, and/or weekend hours required for MRI study sessions.
