About the Role
Highly technical price quant/ modelling expert with a strong commercial orientation to support our Trading and Portfolio teams through price market simulation, market intelligence, weather forecast, and all variables that can impact power prices. This role combines deep scientific expertise in price models in Brazil, weather, and climate modelling with hands‑on application to Brazil's power market, deeply and highly knowledge of the price models and all variables that can affect forward prices, decision-ready insights for trading strategy and risk management.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver daily support to Trading and Portfolio teams through short-, medium-, and long-term weather and climate forecasting.
- Anticipate climate-driven market trends and their potential commercial impact.
- Continuously monitor physical system variables, including ENA (Energia Natural Afluente), reservoir storage levels, and system load.
- Build PLD (Preço de Liquidação das Diferenças) scenarios and run sensitivity analyses using Brazil's official power market models (NEWAVE and DECOMP).
- Assess the commercial impact of alternative climate and hydrological assumptions on energy portfolios and trading strategies.
- Prepare concise, executive-level materials for senior management and the Board.
- Design and refine daily briefing formats for Trading and Portfolio teams to improve alignment and reduce decision-making uncertainty.
- Directly support buy and sell strategies through early identification of adverse climate scenarios.
- Lead automation initiatives to streamline ENA, PLD, and storage assessments, reducing execution time and manual error.
- Contribute to artificial intelligence projects applied to forecasting efficiency and operational robustness in the energy sector.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Physics or Engineering.
- Master's and Ph.D. in Sciences is a plus.
- 6+ years of experience in trading desks running price models and weather/climate modelling.
- 10+ years of experience in the energy industry, ideally in a trading or portfolio-support context.
- Strong working knowledge of NEWAVE and DECOMP models.
- Advanced programming skills in Python, Shell Script, and PowerShell.
- Experience with ensemble analysis and high-performance computing.
- Fluent in English (Spanish is a plus).
Preferred Skills & Attributes
- Proven ability to get changes in the market (weather forecast, regulatory changes, model changes, etc) and translate them in a very fast way into insights to power traders.
- Having a large network capability to monitoring other houses and what they are thinking about the market.
- To take position about trading decision, taking part on the strategy of the desk.
- Proven ability to translate complex technical information into clear, business-relevant insights.
- Track record of building or improving automation workflows for forecasting and market analysis.
- Experience presenting to senior management or Board-level audiences.
- Exposure to AI/machine learning applications in energy forecasting.
- Strong quantitative mindset paired with commercial awareness of market volatility and risk-adjusted trading performance.
