LOCATION : KONA COMMUNITY HOSPITAL | Infection Control POSITION STATUS: 1.00 | Permanent SALARY RANGE: BU29 | SR23 SALARY RATE: $126,276 (Annual Salary) based on the FTE JOB DUTIES: This position is located in the Infection Control unit of the Quality Improvement section of Kona Community Hospital, a 94-bed acute care facility located on the island of Hawaii, West Hawaii Region, which also includes Kohala Hospital. It is one of 9 facilities within the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation. The position manages all infectious disease prevention and program activities.

Specific program functions include acting as a liaison with all local, state, and federal reporting agencies. The primary purpose of this position is to ensure that the organization has a functioning, coordinated process to reduce the risk of healthcare-associated infections and the spread of disease in the patient population. Additional responsibilities include promoting processes to prevent employee exposure to and illness from infectious diseases.

The position will oversee all local, state, and federal agency reporting requirements for staff and patient data as defined in the Employee Health and Infection Prevention Programs. Reporting includes, but is not limited to, the DOH, CMS, CDC, and NHSN, as it is related to public health requirements, infectious diseases, and healthcare-acquired infections. THE MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS ARE: Applicants must meet all of the following requirements.

Please note that unless specifically indicated; the required education and experiences may not be gained concurrently. In addition, qualifying work experiences are based on a 40-hour work week. EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.

A Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing, Microbiology, Public Health, Medical Technology, Health Care Administration, or a related field is preferred. EXPERIENCE: 2 years of professional nursing work experience is required. In addition, a minimum of 3-5 years of experience in clinical/patient care services or any relevant health care leadership role, and an extensive knowledge of infection prevention and process improvement methodologies is preferred.

SUPERVISORY EXPERIENCE: Minimum of one-half (1/2) year of supervisory experience, which included: Planning and directing the work of others; assigning and reviewing their work; advising them on difficult problem areas; timing and scheduling their work; and training and developing employees. ADMINISTRATIVE EXPERIENCE : Experience in the field of personnel management and/or labor relations, which involved active participation in and significant responsibility for the development, management, execution, and coordination of policies, activities, and programs. SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED: Possession of a master's degree from an accredited college or university school of nursing may be substituted for one year of nursing experience.

CERTIFICATION: CBIC certification in Infection Prevention (CIC) desired. BLS certification required upon hire. LICENSE REQUIRED: License to practice as a professional nurse in the State of Hawaii.

For certain positions, possession of a motor vehicle operator's license is required. KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: Knowledge of nursing theory and practice; nursing techniques and procedures; nursing literature and current trends and development in nursing. The ability to apply nursing theory and practice in planning and giving nursing care, recognize, interpret and evaluate symptoms of patient's condition, and take appropriate action.

Positions at this level should be able to initiate and maintain working relationships with members of the medical staff, administration, nursing and other departments and agencies affiliated with the hospital; have knowledge of JCAHO requirements, and those of other federal, state, or private regulatory/review organizations with which the hospital interacts. Good working knowledge of the principles and practices of supervision and demonstrated administrative aptitude. Ability to communicate well with individuals at all levels; work as a team member; apply management, leadership, decision-making, interpersonal and communication skills.
