Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) Reports to: Director of Health and Wellness Department: Health and Wellness Compensation: $115k Shrub Oak International School (www.shruboak.org) is a therapeutic day and residential school for autistic children, adolescents, and young adults with complex co‑occurring conditions. Located in northern Westchester County, Shrub Oak offers unparalleled educational opportunities for autistic students in a family‑centric, supportive environment. Essential Functions Collaborate with Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner around holistic health of students and intersection of physical and psychiatric/emotional well‑being Monitor students’ health and wellness, and perform medical assessment of The Pines residents both as needed and on a routine basis Provide crisis response and first‑aid for medical emergencies or student injuries, including collaboration with Emergency Medical Services as needed Maintain an assigned caseload of students to provide medical case management including collaboration with student guardians/families around medical needs and care, collaboration with youth primary and specialist medical providers, scheduling needed appointments (bloodwork, medical, vision, dental, etc.), routine monitoring of students’ height, weight, and vital signs, administration of student‑prescribed medications, collaboration with nutritionist and food service around dietary and health needs, performing assessment and body‑mark checks at admission and discharge, and coordination with medical providers and pharmacy for prescriptions and refills of student medications Work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team of providers including psychiatric, clinical, education, and direct‑care providers Work directly with students and through Direct Support Professionals to provide health education and support students in development of healthy lifestyle habits Performs any other responsibilities as needed and required Qualifications Current NYS Licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in good professional standing Minimum 2 years of experience as an RN working with children/adolescents Experience working with youth with autism and/or psychiatric illness preferred Experience working with children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and/or co‑occurring conditions Ability to complete Therapeutic Crisis Intervention Training for Schools (TCIS) in its entirety Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) or higher (preferred) Experience working in a therapeutic or residential school setting (preferred) Experience with crisis management and first‑aid (preferred) Training in psychiatric nursing or experience in psychiatric care (preferred) Ability to communicate in a second language (Spanish, etc.) (preferred) Ability to work flexible hours (required) Skills and Abilities Experience with medical assessment and ability to assess and respond quickly in emergent situations Exceptional communication (oral and written) and active listening skills to appropriately understand and meet student needs, and to interact with faculty, staff, families, and all external constituencies Excellent analytical capabilities, with a demonstrated ability to understand, problem‑solve, and make sound determinations/decisions in situations with complex facts and data Ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic environment with multiple stakeholders while being sensitive and responsive to diverse needs of students, families, faculty, and staff, with high degree of cultural competency and collegiality Ability to effectively and proactively interact with a wide variety of individuals in a manner that values diversity, and positively portrays our programs, personnel, and philosophies Ability to multitask and make sound and appropriate decisions under pressure, where situations and circumstances are continually evolving Benefits Insurance coverage: Health, vision, dental, life, and disability insurance Flexible spending account (FSA) Paid time off (PTO) 401(k) with company match Tuition/Professional development assistance Employee assistance program (EAP) Employee discounts Physical Requirements/Demands A workday regularly includes multiple or conflicting demands, deadlines and time pressures; standing for sustained periods, bending, stretching, walking up and down stairs (building has 6 floors), across a hilly campus as needed, may also require walking between floors or between buildings at a moment’s notice. May need to lift/move boxes up to 25 pounds and move or rearrange furniture. Work Environment We are a boarding school located on a 127‑acre campus.
The work environment will include both indoor and outdoor spaces, mostly inside classrooms or educational environment. Work may occur within residential setting. The building has 6 floors accessible by staircases and elevators.
