Position Details Company: IWK Health Location: Halifax, Nova Scotia Title: Registered Nurse – 6 North Hem/Onc Ambulatory, Children’s Medical Care Employment type: Temporary, 100% FTE, 18‑month assignment Start date: August 2026 Union status: NSNU Nursing, Nursing Bargaining Unit Compensation: $40.55 – $51.74 per hour Closing date: 26 May 2026 Opportunity Reporting to the Manager of 6 North Ambulatory, the Registered Nurse (RN) is a member of an interdisciplinary care team, providing holistic, comprehensive, evidence‑based care to meet the needs of individuals, families, and/or communities. The RN provides leadership in nursing assessment and the planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient/family care for the purpose of promoting, maintaining, or restoring health, preventing illness, injury, and disability, or supporting a peaceful death. The RN provides care in collaboration with the patient and family, other nurses, and health team members throughout all stages of health and complexities of illness.
The RN builds professional relationships with other nurses and health team members to support the work of a strong interprofessional team and the provision of quality patient/family care. The RN ensures the goals and needs of the patients and families are prioritized and individualized, using nursing knowledge, critical thinking, and clinical judgment. The RN engages in independent, interdependent, and dependent functions to provide healthcare focusing on comprehensive assessment, patient/family education, and coordination of care.

The RN practices according to the Canadian Nurses Association Code of Ethics for Registered Nurses, the College of Registered Nurses of Nova Scotia Standards of Nursing Practice, specialty standards as applicable, and the policies and procedures of the IWK. The Staff Nurse/Family Care Coordinator is responsible for establishing and maintaining a leadership role as the liaison person between the interdisciplinary Hematology/Oncology Service, other Health Centre services, and community resources in the delivery of family‑centred patient care consistent with the objectives and vision of the IWK Health Centre. Hours of Work Monday to Friday; 7.5‑hour shifts; 08:00–16:00 or 09:00–17:00.
Qualifications Graduate of a Bachelor's degree in Nursing Licensed or eligible for licensure by the Nova Scotia College of Nursing (NSCN) Minimum three (3) years of recent pediatric Hematology/Oncology experience required Previous experience in patient/staff education required Current successful completion of a Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada Basic Life Support Level (BLS) Program within the last 12 months, or successful completion of a BLS Renewal Challenge Certificate, required Oncology certification or enrollment in the certification process is an asset APHON Chemotherapy Biotherapy Provider Status required Previous experience as a Family Care Coordinator preferred Previous experience as a Clinical Care Provider is an asset Demonstrated experience in organization and coordination of care for patients/families, including experience with transition of care, discharge planning, and inter‑agency coordination required Demonstrated leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with an ability to interact not only with interdisciplinary team members but also with community partners in health required Demonstrated ability to function in and manage multiple priorities within complex systems is required Competency in other languages an asset IWK Health is an equal‑opportunity employer.
