Role & Responsibilities Engineering & Technical Execution Support large and complex underground transmission engineering projects from concept development through commissioning. Perform engineering analysis and support conceptual and detailed design of underground cable systems.
Provide technical support for pipe‑type and XLPE cable systems rated 60kV, 115kV, 230kV and above. Develop and review designs involving submarine cable systems, cathodic protection systems, and sheath bonding systems. Perform and validate pulling tension calculations, ampacity analysis, and impedance coordination.
Support development of technical specifications, construction documentation, and engineering standards. Substation & System Integration Support integration of underground transmission systems with GIS and AIS substations. Coordinate grounding system design and ensure alignment with protection and control systems.
Ensure compatibility between underground cable systems and substation equipment and infrastructure. Collaborate with Protection & Controls, Civil, Structural, and Standards teams to ensure engineering continuity. Construction & Lifecycle Support Provide technical support during construction and field execution, resolving engineering issues and coordinating design revisions.
Support preparation and review of Issued for Construction (IFC) drawings. Coordinate with Asset Management, Operations, Maintenance, and Standards teams. Support commissioning readiness, energization activities, and emergency repair planning.
Participate in lifecycle strategy development and root cause analysis for cable failures or system performance issues. Qualifications / Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical discipline from an accredited institution. 5+ years of experience supporting transmission line & substation engineering within electric utility environments. Demonstrated experience supporting systems rated 115kV, 230kV or higher.
Strong understanding of utility standards, regulatory compliance, and IOU governance frameworks. Experience supporting construction coordination and issuance of IFC drawings. Ability to manage multiple complex technical initiatives simultaneously.
Strong communication skills in cross‑functional utility project environments. Preferred Qualifications Professional Engineer (PE) license. Experience leading or mentoring engineering teams.
Experience supporting emergency cable restoration and failure investigation. Participation in industry technical working groups. Experience supporting large capital transmission modernization programs.
