The City of Calgary is hiring engineers across multiple business units, with opportunities spanning planning, design, project development, and delivery of critical public infrastructure. Qualified applicants may be considered for different engineering disciplines and areas of practice based on business needs and organizational priorities. Responsibilities Manage multiple complex projects simultaneously; manage the scope, schedule and budget of engineering consultants and construction contractors.
Prepare in-house studies, budgets, cost estimates, executive reports and other written documents and communications to support your projects. Lead the planning, design and construction of water, storm and sanitary infrastructure projects, including detailed engineering, route and materials selection, hydraulic and other engineering analyses, land requirements, permitting and approvals. Coordinate internal and external partners and teams, perform public presentations to interested groups, and organize and attend Public Information Sessions.
Prepare and/or review engineering reports, drawings and contract documents, including the detailed design, material, and technical specifications. Perform contract administration duties during construction and direct the coordination of support services such as survey and drafting personnel. Monitor and regularly report on your projects to the leadership team, prepare and maintain project charters, plans and other documents under the Corporate Project Management Framework.
Proactively resolve problems that may occur during the design and construction of projects, meet project schedule and progress targets. Prepare terms of reference, work plans, RFx, and lead or support consultant and contractor selection for projects. Qualifications A degree in Engineering and at least 0-3 years (for level P2E), 4-7 years (for level P3E), or at least 8 years (for level P4E) of relevant professional engineering experience obtained after receiving your P.
Eng. designation and a current licensure as a Professional Engineer with APEGA complete with practicing status OR licensure and practicing status by the first day of work. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered. Relevant experience in engineering roles related to planning, design, analysis, project development, project delivery, operations or asset management.
Experience applicable to municipal utility infrastructure including water, wastewater and stormwater systems, within public or private sector environments, will be considered an asset. Knowledge of current design standards, urban development procedures, linear wastewater/stormwater design and environmental standards will be essential for success. Demonstrated ability to apply engineering principles in practical, real-world settings, which may include infrastructure planning, capital project work, regulatory environments, consulting, construction or operational contexts is preferred.
Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams and interested parties. Working conditions: Office environment with some positions conducting field visits and site inspections. Pre‑employment Requirements A security clearance will be conducted for some positions.
