Product Engineer (Frontend & Design)
FX Replay
Job Description
Product Engineer (Frontend & Design)
About the Role
FX Replay is looking for a Product Engineer with a strong frontend and product design background. We're looking for someone who can operate across product design, frontend engineering, and growth—someone with strong UI taste who can design polished experiences, build them hands-on in code, and care deeply about how they perform and convert.
This isn't a traditional frontend engineering role, nor is it a product design role. It's a Product Engineer role that blends product design, frontend engineering, and experimentation. You should be comfortable designing interfaces, building interactive prototypes, and working with our design system in Figma while also independently shipping real, production-ready experiences.
We need someone who is more design-forward than a traditional frontend engineer—someone who naturally thinks like a product builder, makes strong UI decisions, raises the visual quality of the product, and doesn't rely on a separate designer to polish every detail before release.
You'll work primarily in ploy.ai (our product, built with Astro, React, and TypeScript), where you'll design, build, and optimize acquisition funnels, landing pages, pricing and checkout flows, subscription experiences, plan-limit interactions, and other growth-oriented product journeys.
Just as importantly, you're genuinely strong in Astro and React and comfortable working directly in the codebase. You should be able to jump into unfamiliar code, understand it quickly, investigate issues independently, and deliver production-ready solutions while maintaining high standards of design quality, usability, responsiveness, accessibility, and conversion.
Above all, we're looking for someone who is growth-driven and experimentation-minded—a Product Engineer who naturally frames product decisions around user experience, business impact, experimentation, and continuous improvement.
What You'll Do
- Design, build, and maintain polished, responsive product experiences in ploy.ai using Astro, React, TypeScript, JavaScript, and modern web technologies.
- Own and continuously optimize acquisition funnels, landing pages, pricing pages, checkout flows, subscription experiences, and other growth-oriented product journeys with a strong focus on usability, visual quality, and conversion.
- Work with our Notion-based CMS to create flexible, scalable, and maintainable content experiences.
- Build and maintain product experiences that accurately reflect usage-based logic, subscription plans, and user states.
- Integrate APIs and manage authentication, loading, empty, error, and other user/data states across data-driven interfaces.
- Design interfaces, user flows, and interactive prototypes in Figma using design systems and strong product thinking.
- Create and maintain reusable UI components, design tokens, variables, and design system standards, ensuring a seamless translation from Figma into production code.
- Dive into the Ploy codebase to investigate, debug, and iterate independently, confidently navigating unfamiliar code when needed.
- Design, execute, and analyze A/B tests and product experiments, using the results to continuously improve user experience and conversion.
- Partner closely with Product, Growth, and Engineering to transform business requirements into elegant, scalable, and technically sound solutions.
- Use GA4, Google Tag Manager, and other analytics tools to understand user behavior, measure outcomes, and guide product decisions.
- Leverage AI-assisted tools to accelerate design, development, research, testing, and optimization while maintaining high quality standards.
What We're Looking For
- 3+ years of experience as a Product Engineer, Frontend Engineer, Design Engineer, or in a hybrid product design/frontend engineering role.
- Strong product ownership mindset with the ability to identify opportunities, propose solutions, and drive ideas from concept through production.
- Exceptional design taste and UI judgment, with the ability to create clean, modern, conversion-focused interfaces without requiring constant design review.
- Strong knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, component-based architecture, and TypeScript.
- Experience working with APIs, asynchronous data, authentication, user state, and production-grade frontend applications.
- Ability to quickly understand unfamiliar codebases, identify implementation risks, and independently investigate and solve problems end to end.
- Experience designing and building acquisition funnels, purchasing flows, subscription experiences, or other conversion-focused product journeys.
- Strong understanding of responsive design, accessibility, technical SEO, Core Web Vitals, and web performance best practices.
- Experience with Figma, including design systems, components, variables, design tokens, and interactive prototyping.
- Ability to translate design decisions into polished, production-quality interfaces while preserving hierarchy, spacing, responsiveness, accessibility, and interaction quality.
- Familiarity with GA4, Google Tag Manager, analytics, and data-driven product optimization.
- A genuine passion for experimentation—you naturally think in terms of hypotheses, user journeys, A/B tests, funnels, and continuous improvement.
- Excellent written and spoken English.
Nice to Have
- Our favorite: you're an experimentation fanatic with hands-on experience designing acquisition funnels, running A/B tests, and using experimentation to drive measurable business outcomes.
- Production experience with Astro and TypeScript.
- Experience building CMS-driven websites (bonus points if you've worked with Notion as a CMS).
- Experience connecting Figma design tokens with frontend component libraries and maintaining design system consistency across both.
- Knowledge of CRO, structured data, AEO, GEO, and modern growth optimization techniques.
- Familiarity with AI-assisted design, development, and product workflows.
Ideal Candidate
You're a builder at heart. You move fluidly between AI, Figma, and code, choosing whichever tool best solves the problem at hand. You can design a user flow, make it feel polished and intuitive, build it into reusable React/Astro components, integrate it with APIs, implement tracking, and optimize the final experience for performance and conversion.
You think beyond implementation. You care deeply about user experience, visual quality, interaction design, accessibility, responsiveness, and how every detail contributes to building a product that users genuinely enjoy. You naturally combine design thinking with engineering rigor to create experiences that are both beautiful and highly functional.
You're equally comfortable diving into unfamiliar codebases, investigating issues independently, and shipping production-ready solutions without waiting for someone else to tell you what to do. You take ownership, solve problems proactively, and continuously look for opportunities to improve both the product and the way it's built.
Most importantly, you love building products. You're naturally curious, experimentation-driven, and motivated by learning what works through data, user behavior, and continuous iteration. You don't just ship features—you build experiences that create value for users and measurable impact for the business.
