What you can expect on a typical day:

As a Process Shift Technician, you will play a key role in the safe, reliable and efficient operation of our Refinery at Whitegate. Process Technicians are responsible for operating and monitoring refinery process units, responding to changing plant conditions, and ensuring the highest standards of safety, environmental stewardship and operational excellence. This position offers structured, continuous training designed to develop your skills across all refinery operating roles, giving you the opportunity to broaden your expertise and progress your career within the organisation.

All Process Technicians work on a continuous rotating shift basis and are required to respond to callouts on occasion.

Key Responsibilities:

Safety & Compliance

• Follow all policies, procedures and regulatory requirements with regard to health, safetyand environmental obligations.
• Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and emergency drills.
• Identify and report unsafe conditions, near misses, and incidents promptly.
• Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and emission control standards.
• Serve on the emergency response fire brigade and emergency first responder team.

Operational Duties

• Work rotating 12-hour shifts including nights, weekends and bank holidays. Specific periods oftraining will be on days.
• Perform routine operator tasks e.g. monitor levels, temperatures, and pressures within variousunits to ensure equipment is functioning at peak efficiency.
• Safely operate steam boilers, pumps, furnaces, compressors, exchangers, reactors,distillation columns, tankage, piping and associated equipment.
• Transfer crude oil from ships to storage tanks.
• Transfer finished petroleum products to and from ships and processing plant.
• Load and unload petroleum, chemical and LPG trucks.
• Optimize the processing equipment to achieve maximum value from the operation.
• Check the processing plant, piping, tankage and associated equipment for leaks and defects.
• Record/log operation and maintenance actions taken during shift in operator’s logbook.
• Work in a control room environment and operate/interact with DCS (Distributed Control System).
• Assist senior technicians in complex tasks e.g. the planned shutdown or start-up of a unit.
• Work outdoors on Process Units, tank farm and marine terminal. Work includes manualhandling activities, confined space entry, climbing to heights via stairs and vertical columnladders.
• Regularly monitor quality of finished products to ensure they meet the product quality specifications.
• Safely isolate plant and equipment in preparation for maintenance.
• Monitor work activities under permit to work to ensure compliance with safety controls.
• Engage in ongoing training and coaching, developing your skills across all ten refinery operatingroles.
• Work all computer-based systems for a modern oil refinery, including process trending, shift handover logs, operator rounds, training, Microsoft Excel and Word, etc.

• Develop competency across multiple operating positions and refinery process areas.
• Maintain the flexibility to work in a variety of operational assignments as business needs require.
• Acquire and apply knowledge across different refining technologies and production processes.
• Continuously develop technical expertise to support current refinery operations and futuregrowth opportunities.
• Demonstrate adaptability and a willingness to learn new technologies, processes and operatingpractices.
• Team player who can collaborate with others to achieve refinery targets and goals.
• Coordinate with maintenance, inspection, and engineering teams to support planned andunplanned work.
• Communicate clearly and effectively during shift handovers, routine operations, plant upsets andemergency situations to maintain safe and reliable operations.

What you’ll need to succeed:

• Possess a strong technical aptitude, an analytical mind, and the ability to work alone or in ateam setting.
• Be comfortable working with a wide range of industrial machinery and equipment.
• Knowledge of Health, Safety & Environmental requirements associated with the oil and gas orsimilar industry.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to clearly and effectivelyuse radio communication systems in an operational environment.
• Demonstrate good computer literacy and experience using digital systems and softwareapplications.

Education and experience

• Post leaving certificate education in Process Controls, Process Engineering, EngineeringTechnology, Marine Officer, Apprenticeship in a Trade or Technical role.
• Experience using Distributed Control Systems (DCS), SCADA or other industrial control systemswould be an advantage.
• Preferably have experience and certification in process plant operation, oil processing, marineoperations or related continuous process industry.
