Position Summary
STIM Canada is seeking an experienced Process Engineer to join our Engineering team. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, and continuously improving manufacturing processes that support high-quality, efficient production in a high-mix, low-to-medium volume electronics manufacturing environment.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in SMT manufacturing, programming, process optimization, and New Product Introduction (NPI) within a contract electronics manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop, implement, validate, and optimize SMT and electronic assembly manufacturing processes.
* Create and maintain SMT machine programs for pick-and-place equipment, SPI, AOI, reflow ovens, and supporting production equipment.
* Support New Product Introduction (NPI) activities, including process development, first article builds, and production readiness.
* Analyze production data, yield reports, defects, and cycle times to identify improvement opportunities.
* Lead root cause investigations using structured problem-solving methodologies (8D, 5 Why, Fishbone, DMAIC).
* Implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) to improve product quality and manufacturing efficiency.
* Develop work instructions, process flows, manufacturing documentation, PFMEA, control plans, and standard operating procedures.
* Support Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) reviews with customers and internal engineering teams.
* Collaborate closely with Production, Quality, Supply Chain, Test Engineering, and Program Management to resolve manufacturing issues.
* Evaluate and qualify new materials, equipment, tooling, and manufacturing technologies.
* Lead continuous improvement initiatives using Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies.
* Monitor and improve key manufacturing metrics including First Pass Yield (FPY), Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), defects per million opportunities (DPMO), cycle time, and scrap reduction.
* Ensure compliance with IPC standards, ISO 9001, ISO 13485, AS9100, ESD requirements, and customer-specific requirements.
* Provide technical support and training to production personnel.
Qualifications
* Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
* Minimum 5 years of Process Engineering experience in an Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) or Contract Manufacturing environment.
* Minimum 5 years of hands-on SMT programming experience, including setup and optimization of SMT production lines.
* Strong knowledge of SMT manufacturing processes, PCB assembly, reflow soldering, selective soldering, wave soldering, and electronic assembly.
* Experience supporting New Product Introduction (NPI) projects from prototype through production.
* Strong understanding of statistical process control (SPC), process capability, DOE, and data analysis.
* Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Kaizen, 5S, and continuous improvement methodologies.
* Knowledge of IPC-A-610, IPC J-STD-001, ESD controls, and electronics manufacturing best practices.
* Experience with PFMEA, Control Plans, Process Validation, and risk assessment methodologies.
* Excellent troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.
* Strong communication, organizational, and project management skills.
* Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-mix manufacturing environment.
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience programming SMT machines
* Experience with AOI, SPI, X-ray inspection, and automated manufacturing systems.
* Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification is considered an asset.
* Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems and manufacturing execution systems (MES).
* Experience supporting regulated industries such as Medical Devices, Aerospace, or Defense is highly desirable.
