Job Description

TeamYouthMusic is seeking enthusiastic and responsible Grade 11 and Grade 12 students with a strong background in any musical instrument or vocal performance.

Private Music Teachers provide personalized, one-on-one instruction to children based on each student’s skill level, interests, and goals. Lessons follow the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) curriculum while remaining engaging, supportive, and adaptable to the needs of each student.

This paid, part-time position is an excellent opportunity for young musicians to develop teaching, communication, and leadership skills while inspiring the next generation of students.

Lesson Location and Schedule

Lessons generally take place once per week at the student’s residence. In some cases, lessons may be held at the teacher’s residence when agreed upon by the teacher, the student’s parent or guardian, and TeamYouthMusic.

Teachers must have reliable transportation. Access to a vehicle and a valid driver’s licence are considered strong assets. Lessons are typically scheduled after school, during evenings, or on weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging and personalized private music lessons.
  • Prepare lesson plans based on the RCM curriculum and each student’s goals.
  • Teach instrumental or vocal technique, music theory, sight-reading, ear training, and performance skills.
  • Monitor student progress and adjust teaching methods as needed.
  • Prepare students for RCM examinations, recitals, auditions, or school performances when appropriate.
  • Communicate professionally with parents or guardians regarding progress, scheduling, and practice expectations.
  • Maintain attendance records, lesson plans, and progress notes.
  • Follow TeamYouthMusic’s policies, training requirements, and professional standards.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in Grade 11 or Grade 12.
  • Strong proficiency in at least one instrument or in vocal performance.
  • Experience through private lessons, school music programs, the RCM system, or another recognized music program.
  • Basic knowledge of music theory, sight-reading, and performance techniques.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, patiently, and professionally.
  • Enthusiasm for working with children.
  • Reliable transportation to scheduled lessons.
  • Dependability, organization, and punctuality.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High-level RCM or equivalent musical experience.
  • Previous experience tutoring, mentoring, coaching, or working with children.
  • Participation in bands, orchestras, choirs, ensembles, or performances.
  • Access to a vehicle and a valid driver’s licence.
