POSITION OVERVIEW

The Precast Manager is responsible for leading Hickory’s new precast facility, ensuring the safe, efficient and cost-effective manufacture of precast elements to support project delivery. The role oversees production, quality, workforce management, logistics and plant operations, ensuring production targets and project programmes are achieved. Working closely with project teams, engineers, suppliers and site personnel, the Precast Manager ensures all precast elements are delivered to the required quality, safety and construction standards while driving productivity, continuous improvement and operational performance across the facility.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Production Planning & Scheduling: Develop and manage production programmes to ensure precast elements are manufactured in line with project milestones, delivery schedules and installation requirements.
• Quality Assurance & Control: Oversee all production activities to ensure precast elements meet project specifications, quality standards and inspection requirements.
• Supplier & Procurement Management: Coordinate with suppliers to ensure the timely supply of concrete, reinforcement, embeds and other materials required to maintain production targets.
• Team Leadership & Coordination: Lead production crews, supervisors and subcontractors, providing clear direction and ensuring daily production targets are achieved safely and efficiently.
• Project Coordination: Work closely with project managers, engineers and site teams to align production output with project programmes and construction sequencing.
• Design & Change Management: Review design changes and shop drawing revisions, ensuring production processes are adjusted efficiently while minimising impacts to programme and cost.
• Logistics & Delivery Management: Coordinate transport and site deliveries to ensure precast elements arrive on time and in the required installation sequence.
• Stakeholder Management: Maintain strong working relationships with internal teams, clients, consultants and subcontractors to support successful project delivery.
• Cost Control & Budget Management: Monitor labour, material and production costs, identifying opportunities to improve productivity and reduce waste.
• Supply Chain Management: Manage material availability and supplier performance to minimise disruptions and maintain production continuity.
• Vendor Performance Management: Monitor supplier performance against quality, cost and delivery requirements and implement improvements where required.
• Health, Safety & Compliance: Promote a strong safety culture and ensure all production activities comply with WHS legislation, company policies and site requirements.
• Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement improvements to production methods, workflows and plant utilisation to increase efficiency and productivity.
• Contract & Commercial Management: Assist with reviewing supplier agreements and subcontractor contracts to manage commercial risk and achieve best value outcomes.
• Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate production records, quality documentation, delivery schedules and operational reports.
• Industry Innovation: Stay informed of new precast technologies, manufacturing methods and industry trends to support innovation and process improvement.
• Risk Management: Identify and mitigate risks relating to safety, production capacity, procurement, quality and project delivery.
• Performance Management: Manage team performance through regular feedback, coaching and development initiatives.
• Training & Development: Ensure employees receive the necessary training, qualifications and competencies to perform their roles safely and effectively.
• Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with applicable Australian Standards, building regulations and industry requirements.
• Production Benchmarking: Measure production performance against operational targets and industry benchmarks to drive continuous improvement.
• Workforce Management: Manage workforce planning, resolve operational issues and maintain a productive team environment.
• Sustainability & Waste Reduction: Support sustainable manufacturing practices by reducing waste, improving resource utilisation and promoting environmental responsibility.
• Design Coordination: Participate in design review meetings to ensure precast elements can be manufactured, transported and installed efficiently.
• Production Audits & Reviews: Conduct regular audits of production performance, quality outcomes and programme adherence, implementing corrective actions where required.
• Programme & Resource Management: Allocate labour, plant and production resources to meet project priorities, milestones and delivery commitments.
• Change Management: Lead the implementation of operational and project changes while minimising impacts to production, quality and programme.
• Innovation Assessment: Evaluate new equipment, technologies and production methods to improve operational efficiency and project outcomes.
• Communication & Reporting: Provide timely communication and reporting to project teams and senior management on production performance, risks and delivery status.

TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THE ROLE

• Relevant tertiary qualification in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Manufacturing, Project Management or a related discipline.
• Trade qualification in a construction, manufacturing or engineering field will be highly regarded.
• Current knowledge of Australian Standards, WHS legislation and quality management practices relevant to precast manufacturing and construction.
• Extensive experience managing precast concrete manufacturing operations or similar construction and manufacturing environments.
• Demonstrated experience leading production teams, supervisors and subcontractors in a fast-paced operational environment.
• Strong understanding of precast concrete production methods, concrete technology, reinforcement, mould systems and quality control requirements.
• Proven experience in production planning, resource allocation, procurement and logistics coordination.
• Experience working with project delivery teams to ensure production output aligns with project programmes, installation sequences and client requirements.
• Demonstrated ability to manage operational budgets, labour productivity, material usage and cost performance.
• Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills.
