Job Description
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education - Graduate of an accredited Associate Degree program for Physical Therapy Assistants recognized by the Commission on Accreditation of Physical Therapy Education or approved successor organization. APTA Experience - A minimum of one (1) year of relevant experience is preferred. Licenses & Certification - Incumbent must possess current State of Oklahoma Licensure for Physical Therapist Assistants.
Knowledge & Skills - Knowledge and experience of the principles and procedures of Physical Therapy and it's relationship to health, treatment and prevention of disability, quality of life issues and the value of interdisciplinary interaction through supervision and monitoring of a Physical Therapy Program. Ability and skill in providing physical therapy treatments and procedures in accordance with State laws to assist in development of treatment plans, carry out routine functions, document the progress of treatment, and modify specific treatments in accordance with patient status and within the scope of treatment plans established by a physical therapist. Knowledge of personnel and rehab services management practices, methods and principles.
Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work. e) Ability to communicate effectively with patients, medical staff, administrative staff, health care professionals and the general public both orally and in writing. JOB SUMMARY The purpose of the position is to provide physical therapy assisting and support to the Physical Therapy department. Incumbent is under direct supervision of the Physical Therapist.
WORK ENVIRONMENT Work is performed in an inpatient and ambulatory health care setting. There is common exposure to infectious and communicable diseases, potentially hazardous chemicals, and biohazardous materials. The work may include a certain amount of exposure to hostile and/or emotionally disturbed patients, families, and visitors.
Must be aware of all risks involved and be willing to take precautions as requested and required. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Work in the ambulatory health care setting requires considerable walking between exam and treatment rooms, and long periods of moving about the work unit. Work requires regular and recurring bending, stooping, stretching, and lifting of patients or similar activities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Satisfactory job performance will be determined by successful execution of the following: Provide direct patient care as part of a team to provide physical therapy services under the direction and supervision of the physical therapist. Implement selected patient interventions, obtain data related to the intervention provided, and make modifications to treatment either to progress the patient as directed by the physical therapist or to ensure patient safety and comfort Plan and carry out physical therapy for general and post-surgical patients. Instruct, motivate, safeguard and assist patients as they perform skilled exercises and functional activities.
Assess the level of patient care on a continuing basis and update procedures as necessary. Confer with physical therapy staff and others to discuss and evaluate patient information for planning, modifying, and coordinating treatment. Perform clerical duties, such as taking inventory, stocking supplies, answering telephones, and completing documentation in a timely manner.
Keep clear and accurate records on patients seen in accordance with established policy. Regular attendance is required. Perform other duties as required.
