Nursing Unit Manager (Healthcare)

Job Summary:

Management of the nursing unit in accordance with current applicable federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations. Position reports to the Director of Nursing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for nursing residents.
  • This can include but not limited to the following: maintaining current health records, following up on incidents/issues with skilled nursing residents and/or meeting families as needed.
  • Monitor falls, infection control, skin issues, unusual occurrences, medicine delivery errors and other incidents.
  • Maintenance of quality assurance parameters on unit, including chart and log audits.
  • Coordinate admissions, transfers and discharges for nursing residents.
  • Supervise the nursing staff.
  • Participate in yearly evaluations and monitor staff for corrective action as needed.
  • Ensure proper in-servicing of staff.
  • Develop and maintain working relationship with professional providers of care to nursing residents.
  • Writes and reviews residents assessments and plans of care with appropriate staff.
  • Plans and schedules staff training programs and in-services for the nursing staff.
  • Ensures compliance with all state regulatory requirements including mandatory reporting to State.
  • Ensures that all concern and incident reports are completed, filed and that follow-up is conducted appropriately.
  • Complies with all city, state, and federal regulations pertaining to Residents accounts as it relates to Medicare, third party billing, etc.
  • Provide assistance to the Director of Nursing in special assigned projects.
  • Develops and maintains good working relationships with residents, department heads, co-workers, etc.
  • Possesses strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
  • Attends all required training, in-service, and staff meetings.
  • Strives to maintain a safe working environment through the prevention of accidents, the preservation of equipment, and the achievement of safe working practices.
  • Maintains a positive and professional demeanor toward residents, visitors, families, and co-workers.
  • Adheres to all policies and procedures of HutsonWood.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all pertinent information.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Directly supervises other nursing personnel.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities per center policies, practices, procedures, and applicable laws.

Qualifications:

  • RN or LPN license from an accredited school
  • One year of related experience (Preferred)
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.

Physical Demands:

Role may require lifting and moving materials and the ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
