Job Description

Position Information The Gastrointestinal (GI) cancer Nurse Practitioner provides holistic care to patients with GI cancer receiving standard of care treatments such as chemotherapy, immune therapy, and monoclonal antibodies. This role emphasizes continuity of care by monitoring side effects, offering supportive care, patient education, and coordinating care with interdisciplinary teams. The NP also delivers symptom management to patients on systemic therapy for any solid tumor in the Symptom Treatment Unit (STU) on a rotation basis with other solid tumor NPs.

The NPs in the STU perform point‑of‑care paracentesis to relieve symptoms of ascites. Protected time is set aside for ongoing education, quality improvement initiatives, and research. The position rotates between the General Campus and IGFCC campus.

Rotation / Shifts Days, 8 hour shifts. Basic Requirements Certificate of registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario; Current certification/licensure as a Nurse Practitioner (RN(EC)); Two (2) years of current experience as a registered nurse in an acute care setting; Minimum three (3) months nursing experience caring for oncology patients; Experience in working independently within an interdisciplinary team; Member of RNAO and NPAO; Demonstrated organizational, conceptual and leadership skills; Demonstrated advanced practice skills and competence in interpersonal relationships, problem solving, collaboration and innovation; Effective and concise communication, both orally and in writing; Must be eligible to work in Canada. Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree in Nursing; Member of CANO; CNA certification in Oncology Nursing; Minimum two (2) years experience as a Nurse Practitioner or Advanced Practice Nurse; Proficiency in English and French – oral expression (advanced level) and comprehension (advanced level).
