Overview

In this role you drive profitable, predictable growth in the Midlands by securing new work and expanding existing relationships. You will translate the five-year construction strategy into local market priorities, customer plans, and measurable outcomes, while guiding cross-functional teams in bidding, frameworks, and negotiated opportunities. You’ll lead and develop a high-performing business development function, ensuring opportunities are strategically aligned and commercially viable.

This position combines leadership, market insight, and a consultative approach to shape repeat business and long-term partnerships in a dynamic construction environment.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a local business development strategy aligned with the construction strategy and growth targets
  • Build trusted, long-term customer relationships to generate repeat business and negotiated opportunities
  • Identify, qualify and secure opportunities that fit capabilities, risk appetite and commercial expectations
  • Lead customer, market, bid and pursuit strategies to focus resources on high-potential opportunities
  • Listen to customer requirements and propose solutions to meet them
  • Embed customer insight into high-quality proposals and presentations
  • Cultivate strategic relationships with consultants, framework providers, and market influencers
  • Set the local marketing strategy aligned with national priorities to position the business as a trusted technical partner
  • Monitor pipeline quality, conversion, customer engagement, secured workload and revenue forecasts with timely actions
  • Build and inspire high-performing BD, frameworks, proposals and marketing teams
  • Identify internal skills and resources to maximize opportunities
