Job Description
Job Title: Manager – Legal Location: Kolkata (Onsite - Work from Office) About the Role: We are seeking an experienced Legal Manager to oversee corporate legal matters, ensure regulatory compliance, and support business operations with sound legal guidance. The role requires strong expertise in corporate law, contract management, and risk mitigation. Key Responsibilities: Contracts: Draft, review, and negotiate a diverse range of agreements with customers, vendors, partners etc.
Ensure all contracts align with relevant laws and internal policies while balancing business objectives with risk mitigation. Dispute Resolution: Manage all pre-litigation and litigation matters, including drafting legal notices or responses as well as managing arbitrations and court proceedings. Compliance Management : Advise on and manage compliance with various laws including Legal Metrology, Drugs and Cosmetics Act, legal aspects of advertising (including ASCI guidelines), Consumer Protection Act and Rules and other applicable laws.
Strategic Counsel: Provide expert legal guidance on daily operations, intellectual property (IP) rights, and broader commercial issues. Legal Operations: Maintain legal records, disputes trackers, contracting MIS, reporting decks, and compliance trackers. Ensure all internal legal tools and databases are updated accurately and in a timely manner.
Ad-Hoc Projects: Manage additional initiatives and projects as assigned. Stakeholder Collaboration: Advise and partner with senior business and functional stakeholders. Collaborate effectively under the guidance of the larger group’s legal counsel.
Ideal Candidate Profile: LL.B. from a premier law school or university in India. Approx. 8-10 years of relevant post-qualification legal experience with a proven track record of managing disputes, drafting / negotiating contracts, advising on compliance aspects, managing IP and providing legal advisory. Must-Have Skills: Strong analytical, drafting and negotiation skills with an ability to quickly understand and adapt to business requirements, deep dive into projects / transactions and draft appropriate legal documentation.
Ability to find business enabling solutions in alignment with legal requirements. Self-starter; exhibiting high motivation, sense of urgency, commitment and ownership. Ability to set priorities and comfortably work in an intensely timeline-oriented environment.
High integrity, collaborative communication, and interpersonal skills. Confident, dynamic, and pro-active disposition. Think 'outside-of-the-box' to come up with practical and innovative solutions to legal and business issues.
