Manager, Engineering Program Manager Packaging Cupertino, California, United States Hardware The Packaging EPM Manager is responsible for leading, mentoring, and growing a diverse team of program managers who orchestrate the "unboxing" experience for our customers. This role leverages a strong technical background to provide strategic guidance on development activities, build execution, and risk management. This position offers a unique opportunity to combine deep technical expertise in packaging technologies with organizational leadership and executive exposure.
Description Lead the Packaging Engineering Program Management team, overseeing the planning and execution of a portfolio of packaging projects from concept to mass production. You will be responsible for the team structure, hiring, and career development of individual EPMs. You will serve as the primary escalation point for the program with cross‑functional leadership in Operations, Industrial Design, Product Design, and Marketing.
You will drive the team to set clear objectives, manage complex build matrices, and ensure the timely completion of high‑quality packaging solutions. You will champion process improvements to streamline development cycles and facilitate feedback through internal design review processes. Responsibilities Manage, mentor, and grow a team of Engineering Program Managers; provide regular feedback, coaching, and performance management Oversee the allocation of resources across multiple projects to ensure bandwidth aligns with aggressive quality, schedule, and cost goals Drive strategic alignment and facilitate communication across engineering and cross functional leadership Owning creation and driving alignment with cross functional partners on packaging roadmap.
Driving execution of committed roadmap. Identify systemic risks across the packaging portfolio; develop mitigation strategies and facilitate conflict resolution Define and refine best practices for project schedules, build planning, and cross-functional workflows Manage relationships with external vendors and OEM partners to ensure support for development builds and mass production Minimum Qualifications BS in Engineering 8+ years of relevant industry experience, with specific experience in packaging or mechanical product design 3+ years of direct people management experience (leading teams of PMs or Engineers) Proven track record of managing complex hardware development cycles Preferred Qualifications Experience scaling teams and managing resources in a high‑volume consumer electronics environment Detailed knowledge of global manufacturing processes Ability to filter and distill complex technical information for an executive audience Excellent communication, presentation, organizational, and leadership skills Highly disciplined in workflow, process, and staying organized on priority tasks Superior attention to detail with a strong commitment to rigor and excellence Demonstrated ability to remain flexible and calm in the face of uncertainty and rapid change Previous work or exposure to environmental initiatives and sustainability policies Masters in Engineering or MBA is a plus At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role.
The base pay range for this role is between $176,600 and $313,500, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple’s discretionary employee stock programs. Apple employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards, and can purchase Apple stock at a discount if voluntarily participating in Apple’s Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
