Locum Physician (MD/DO) - Family Practice in Montana

Doctor of Medicine | Family Practice Location: Montana Employer: Barton Associates Pay: Competitive weekly pay (inquire for details) Start Date: ASAP About the Position We are seeking a dedicated Family Practice Physician for an engaging 40-day locum tenens assignment starting Apr 27, 2026, in Montana. This role involves providing essential primary medical care to adult and geriatric patients within an inpatient psychiatric hospital, including performing physical examinations, evaluating complex medical and psychiatric cases, and offering expert medical consultation. The schedule is Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM, with crucial on-call responsibilities.

Responsibilities and Duties Provide primary medical care to patients during scheduled clinic times, rounds on clinical units, unscheduled visits to units, and during on-call after hours. Perform initial (within 24 hours of admission) and yearly physical examinations of extended care patients. Evaluate and treat patients with complex medical and psychiatric problems.

Provide expert medical consultation to attending psychiatrists and nursing staff. Provide after hours on-call primary medical coverage. Complete documentation, write reports, and conduct evaluations as required by Hospital policies and state and federal regulations and standards.

Provide medical clinic leadership under the direction of the Medical Director. Consult with other internal and external professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, social workers, and attorneys as needed to make patient care decisions. Participate in Unit and Hospital Treatment Team Functions.

Carry out other appropriate duties as requested by the Medical Director. Serve on Hospital committees as assigned by the Medical Director or the Hospital Administrator. Participate in, and provide for other staff, continuing education and training programs.

Maintain liaison communication with community physicians, mental health professionals, and drug/alcohol programs. Additional Information Expected to see a general practice of medicine for adult and geriatric patients and utilize consultative resources in the practice of medicine in an inpatient psychiatric hospital.
