Summary
The Investment Analyst for MMI Group Inc. is a creative problem solver who demonstrates passion, optimism, and upholds a reputation as a trusted, results-oriented professional. The Investment Analyst is confident in financial analysis and modelling and uses their skills and expertise to optimize investment decisions, evaluate opportunities and projects, and maximize long-term value and portfolio performance. In addition, the Investment Analyst provides guidance on the risk and asset mix of the overall portfolio, making recommendations to leadership on investment decisions.
The Investment Analyst reports directly to the Vice President, Asset Management.
Required Skills and Abilities
- Education & Credentials: Bachelor’s degree in Finance (or a related field), or equivalent experience. A professional financial designation (e.g., CFA) is an asset.
- Experience: At least 3 years of experience in financial analysis, underwriting, and building financial models.
- Technical Skills: Advanced Excel and financial modelling skills are a must. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint) is required. Experience with U-Rite or Argus is an asset.
- Analytical & Reporting Skills: Strong analytical mindset with the ability to evaluate investments and make recommendations. Comfortable preparing clear, concise reports and presentations for leadership.
- Communication & Relationship Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills. Able to build and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders and provide excellent client service.
- Organization & Time Management: Able to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and stay organized in a fast-paced environment.
- Problem-Solving & Adaptability: A creative thinker who can solve problems and adapt quickly in a growing and changing environment.

Duties and Responsibilities
Program Services & Support
- Conduct in-depth research and analysis and connect with internal and external industry stakeholders to develop and maintain a thorough understanding of assets, markets, and industry trends; share relevant information as a thought leader within the organization.
- Develop asset valuations as part of the strategic plan for all funds and syndications.
- Lead deal structure, underwriting, and make recommendations on investments to Leadership.
- Participate in property acquisition analysis (financial modelling and due diligence) for both managed funds and co-ownership syndications.
- Track, update, and compare actual project results to pro formas and strategic plans to allow for quick, informed decision-making.
- Lead Juniper Square updates, including valuations and annual returns.
- Complete financial aspects of quarterly investor reports, ensuring that component financial pieces are completed accurately and on time by others in the organization as needed.
- Provide support and assistance as required to other team members, in particular as workloads fluctuate.
- Collaborate effectively with team members throughout the business.
- Make use of knowledge of standard office administrative practices and procedures.
- Ensure that deliverables align with the strategic priorities of the business units supported.
Financial Responsibilities & Resource Management
- Analyze financial statements, economic indicators, and market trends to determine the financial health of current and potential investments.
- Forecast and review cash distributions quarterly.
- Build and maintain various financial models, amending regularly to reflect reality.
- Update pro formas throughout projects to ensure return metrics are achieved.
- Actively research market-standard processes, return metrics, and benchmarks, making recommendations to Leadership.
- Ensure that all resources are used in the most effective and efficient ways to support business activities.
- Conduct business in a fiscally responsible manner, considering budget and potential costs.
Client Experience & Stakeholder Relations
- Attend industry events and conferences to network with potential clients and promote investment opportunities.
- Conduct market research to identify new potential clients and generate leads for the business.
- Participate actively in committees and team meetings as assigned.
- Other duties as required and assigned.
