Job Description
About the company
We are one of the world's earliest and most established digital asset platforms, serving tens of millions of users across global markets. Consistently ranked among the top exchanges worldwide, we support a comprehensive suite of trading and wealth management products across thousands of digital assets. With thousands of employees spanning key financial hubs globally, we operate with a remote-first, high-autonomy culture that attracts talent who thrive in fast-moving, intellectually demanding environments.
We are building the financial infrastructure of the next era of the internet.
Why this role
We are entering the Brazilian market as a Banco Central do Brasil-authorised Virtual Asset Service Provider, and you would be our first Business & Operations Officer on the ground. Under BCB Resolution 520/2025, VASPs are required to designate a statutory director responsible for conducting the institution's business and ensuring alignment with its commercial and strategic objectives — this is that seat. In your first year, you will have established the operational foundation of Gate's Brazil entity, built the company's commercial presence in the market, and ensured our business activities run in full alignment with the BCB's regulatory expectations.
What you'll do
- Hold statutory director responsibility for business conduct and operations at a BCB-authorised VASP, with personal accountability for acting in good faith and in the company's best interest
- Oversee and conduct the institution's day-to-day business activities, ensuring alignment with Gate's commercial strategy and operational objectives in Brazil
- Act as the primary operational interface between Gate's Brazil entity and its regional and global leadership, translating strategic direction into local execution
- Maintain personal fitness and propriety; disclose, without prompting, anything that touches your fitness, propriety, or potential conflicts — to the company and to the BCB
- Drive the VASP authorisation process forward on the business and operations workstream, including declarations and documentation the BCB requests on its own timeline
- Discharge any additional duties prescribed by applicable Brazilian laws, regulations, or by the company
What you'll bring
Must-have
- Brazilian permanent residency or citizenship, with the ability to maintain ordinary residency in Brazil for as long as the role requires
- You hold no competing statutory director or officer seat at another regulated entity in Brazil
- A predominantly commercial and operational profile — you have led or co-led a business unit, market expansion, or operational function, not just supported one
- Prior experience at a BCB-regulated financial institution, fintech, or crypto/VASP — familiarity with how regulated entities operate in Brazil is essential
- Fluent in Portuguese and English, written and spoken
- Willing to undergo a full BCB fit-and-proper review and disclose what it requires
Nice-to-have
- Prior experience in the crypto or digital asset industry
- Direct prior engagement with BCB on regulatory filings, inspections, or authorisation processes
- Academic background or postgraduate training in business, finance, economics, or law
