Geographic Information Systems Technician

The Senior GIS Technician/Analyst resource will play an active role in the development and execution of GIS data activities and associated data management practices. They will be expected to provide expert advisory, planning, and development for GIS data analytics and activities associated with GIS and data systems. This will include (non-exhaustive):

• GIS Data Landscape Assessment
• Spatial Analysis Capability Development
• Mapping and Visualisation Solutions
• Integrate, Maintain and Develop GIS Data Pipelines
• GIS Data Quality, Management and Preparation
• GIS Development, Technical Advisory & Oversight
• Risk, Security and Compliance
• Documentation & Knowledge Transfer

The resource must demonstrate:

• Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of GIS principles, platforms, and technologies.
• Extensive experience designing, developing, and supporting Enterprise GIS solutions and geospatial applications.
• Experience integrating GIS platforms with business systems, APIs, cloud services, and external data sources.
• Demonstrated expertise in spatial data management, geospatial analysis, cartography, and location intelligence.
• Extensive experience with enterprise-scale database systems (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle, PostGIS, MySQL).
• Strong experience developing, optimising, and automating GIS data pipelines, ETL/ELT processes, and system integrations.
• Experience providing technical consultancy in public-sector or regulated environments.
• Ability to assess organisational GIS maturity and identify opportunities to improve spatial data management, analytics, and service delivery.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience producing formal documentation for governance boards or programme steering groups.

Professional Requirements

• GIS Diploma or Certification from a recognised provider (e.g., university GIS diploma, ESRI Technical Certification, GISP Certification, CGeog Certification).
• ESRI ArcGIS Enterprise Administration or ArcGIS Developer certifications.
• Cloud platform certifications (e.g., AWS, Azure).
• Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, or equivalent database certifications.
• DAMA, DMBOK, or similar data governance frameworks.
