Role: Generalist Intern - Research and Operations
Company: StepsAI
Location: Hyderabad
Work Mode: In-office
Type: Full-time Internship
About StepsAI
StepsAI builds AI agents that help businesses engage, sell, support, and automate customer conversations across websites, e-commerce stores, WhatsApp, Instagram, and other digital channels.
We are a fast-moving team working across product, sales, marketing, customer success, partnerships, and operations.
As we grow, we are looking for someone who can work closely with the founders and bring greater structure, visibility, and follow-through across the organization.
About the Role
The Founder’s Office Intern will work directly with the founders on company-wide planning, coordination, documentation, operations, and special projects.
This is an execution-oriented role.
Your responsibility will be to help turn discussions and priorities into clear plans, keep important initiatives moving, and make sure founders and teams have visibility into what is happening across the company.
You will work across functions rather than being limited to one department.
A big part of your job will be answering three questions:
What are we doing?
Who owns it?
What needs to happen next?
What You’ll Own
- Maintain visibility across important company initiatives and priorities.
- Convert discussions into clear action items, owners, and timelines.
- Track projects and follow up with relevant team members.
- Identify delays, dependencies, blockers, and unresolved items.
- Prepare weekly priority and progress updates for the founders.
- Help teams stay aligned on deadlines and commitments.
- Maintain a central view of ongoing initiatives.
- Support founders with day-to-day business coordination.
- Prepare agendas and context before important meetings.
- Capture decisions, action items, and responsibilities after meetings.
- Follow up on commitments until they are completed.
- Organize information the founders need for meetings and decisions.
- Coordinate with employees, candidates, customers, vendors, partners, and other stakeholders when required.
- Create and maintain internal documentation.
- Document important decisions, processes, and workflows.
- Build and maintain SOPs.
- Organize company documents, meeting notes, trackers, and reports.
- Turn unstructured information into clear and usable documents.
- Make sure important information is easy for the team to find.
- Maintain simple dashboards and trackers for important company initiatives.
- Collect updates from different teams.
- Summarize progress, upcoming priorities, blockers, and pending decisions.
- Help the founders quickly understand where different initiatives stand.
- Improve the way information moves across the company.
The goal is not to create more reporting.
The goal is to create clarity.
- Help plan and execute company events, customer events, workshops, conferences, and team activities.
- Coordinate venues, vendors, schedules, attendees, materials, and logistics.
- Create event plans and checklists.
- Coordinate responsibilities across the team.
- Make sure everything is followed through before, during, and after an event.
You will occasionally take ownership of projects that do not neatly belong to one department.
Examples could include:
- Researching and evaluating a new tool or vendor.
- Creating a new internal process.
- Coordinating a product or campaign launch.
- Researching competitors or markets.
- Improving an existing company workflow.
- Setting up a new reporting system.
- Helping coordinate an important customer initiative.
- Supporting partnerships or company events.
- Solving an operational bottleneck.
The expectation is that you can take a loosely defined problem, structure it, and help move it toward completion.
When required, you may also help with:
- Maintaining hiring trackers.
- Coordinating interviews.
- Following up with candidates.
- Preparing onboarding plans.
- Coordinating new employee or intern onboarding.
- Organizing internal meetings and team activities.
We are looking for someone who is:
Highly organized
You naturally bring structure to scattered information and multiple priorities.
Strong at follow-through
You don't stop after documenting a task. You track it until there is an outcome.
Proactive
You identify what needs attention instead of waiting to be told every next step.
Clear communicator
You can turn a long discussion into a short, clear summary with decisions and next actions.
Comfortable with ambiguity
Not every problem will arrive with detailed instructions.
Detail-oriented
Names, dates, numbers, deadlines, and commitments matter.
Resourceful
When you don't know something, you know how to figure it out.
Comfortable working across teams
You should be able to coordinate with product, sales, marketing, operations, and leadership.
Reliable and discreet
You may work with confidential company information and founder-level discussions.
This role could be a strong fit if you are:
- A final-year student or recent graduate.
- Interested in startups, entrepreneurship, operations, or business.
- Someone who has organized college clubs, festivals, communities, events, projects, or teams.
- Someone who enjoys making plans and making sure they actually happen.
- Comfortable taking responsibility beyond a narrowly defined job description.
Previous startup experience is helpful but not required.
We value ownership, clarity, communication, and execution more than a specific degree.
Within a few months, you should help create a situation where:
- Important projects have clear owners and timelines.
- Founders can quickly understand what is happening across the company.
- Meeting decisions are documented and followed through.
- Pending tasks don't disappear.
- Important blockers are surfaced early.
- Internal documentation is organized and current.
- Events and special projects have clear execution plans.
- Teams know what needs to happen next.
You should gradually become a reliable source of operating clarity for the founders.
This role gives you exposure to how an early-stage AI company is actually built.
You will work closely with the founders and get visibility across:
- Product
- AI
- Sales
- Marketing
- Customer success
- Operations
- Hiring
- Partnerships
- Strategy
Rather than working on one narrow function, you will see how different parts of a startup come together and have the opportunity to take ownership of real projects.
- For someone who wants to eventually build a company, work in startups, enter business operations, or grow into a Founder’s Office / Chief of Staff role, this can be a strong learning opportunity.
