Salary Range: LGO6 - $102,639 - $109,563 per annum + super

Location: Townsville

About The Role

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Financial Accountant to play a key role in delivering accurate financial accounting services, technical advice, compliance reporting, and financial analysis that supports informed decision-making across Council.

Reporting to the Team Leader Asset Accounting and Insurance, you will contribute to the preparation of Council's financial statements, maintain the integrity of financial data and systems, provide expert accounting advice, and ensure compliance with relevant legislation and Australian Accounting Standards. Working collaboratively with stakeholders across the organisation, you will identify opportunities to improve processes and internal controls while helping drive innovation, efficiency, and service excellence. This is an excellent opportunity for a finance professional looking to further develop their technical accounting expertise within a large and complex organisation.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • A Bachelor of Business (Accounting) or equivalent qualification.
  • 3 to 5 years' experience in a financial accounting role within a medium to large organisation.
  • CA or CPA membership, or progress towards obtaining this qualification, highly regarded.
  • Strong knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards, financial compliance requirements, and internal control frameworks.
  • Experience preparing financial reports, reconciliations, and analysing financial data.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience working with large financial management systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to identify process improvement opportunities.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to provide financial advice to a range of internal customers.
  • A collaborative approach and demonstrated ability to contribute positively within a high-performing team.
  • A commitment to workplace safety, customer service excellence, and Council's values.
  • A current Queensland "C" Class Driver Licence.
