University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust EPR Configuration Developer The closing date is 10 May 2026 As a Configuration developer for the EPR programme you will be the specialist responsible for configuration, testing and implementation activities supporting the delivery of our paperless hospital vision. You will play a critical role, working on multiple projects simultaneously alongside business analysts, system suppliers, senior developers and stakeholders from across the three hospital sites. Working closely with our teams of Digital Nurses and EPR Programme leads, you will help to deliver solutions to the challenges of removing the reliance on paper for healthcare delivery.

Main duties of the job Transform solution designs and requirements specifications into robust solutions utilising our set of key systems around which we are building our hybrid electronic patient record. Follow best practice development, configuration and testing lifecycles using a mixture of agile product and traditional waterfall approaches. Deliver development of electronic data capture forms and correspondence templates using an open, standards‑based approach.

As a subject matter expert (SME) for configuration & content development platforms and processes, ensure that development and testing processes, tools and techniques are fit for purpose and meet the requirements of the IM&T Enterprise Architecture and Portfolio Management Office policies and procedures. Job responsibilities Translate designs into robust solutions supportable by the Trust’s managed business partner for IM&T Adhere to policies and standards to ensure consistency across all elements of the IM&T portfolio. Participate in policy development and implementation, proposing changes to user working practices and procedures Work closely with other departmental subject matter experts and architects to ensure that the technology infrastructure is extensible and reduces complexity wherever possible.

Follow quality standards and control processes. Ensure that quality control activities (e.g., testing) are carried out satisfactorily and options for resolution of defects are clearly articulated. Ensure IT solutions meet information and cyber security governance standards.

Document configuration and development activities clearly so that key information can easily be shared with support teams for business‑as‑usual support and maintenance activities. Investigate and resolve complex issues relating to configuration items, identifying creative solutions, and evaluating the relative merits of different options. Take advantage of new developing techniques and technologies, working closely with the IM&T Enterprise Architecture function to future‑proof the UHL eHospital platform.

Maintain good working relationships with external stakeholders and system vendors. Support colleagues in their understanding, interpretation and use of information systems. Support and train junior colleagues as part of wider departmental induction.

Person Specification Training & Qualifications Degree level qualification in computer science or relevant discipline or equivalent experience Post‑graduate diploma in a relevant subject or equivalent experience. Ongoing self‑led programme of Continuous Professional Development Level 3, 4 and 5: S/NVQ for Information / Communication Technology Professionals ITIL Foundation Experience Significant detailed practical experience of IT in a large or complex organisation Demonstrable success in application development & configuration Dealing with user enquiries Experience of management of change in own area Experience in development using JavaScript, HTML, jQuery and CSS including academic experience. EPR administration in a healthcare environment Communication and relationship skills Demonstrated ability to work well with others Able to describe highly technical and complex concepts to colleagues from different backgrounds both individually and in groups.

Equally comfortable liaising with technical colleagues and handling face to face meetings with non‑technical business and clinical users. Able to communicate to a high standard verbally and in writing. Good communication skills, able to present complex technical concepts to non‑IT audiences.

Communicates diplomatically but effectively both verbally and in writing. Analytical and Judgement skills Excellent analytical and technical skills. Ability to identify and articulate multiple technical solutions to business problems, making recommendations as to the best course of action, identifying risks and benefits in each case.

Ability to accurately estimate configuration and development effort required from requirements and solution design documentation. Shows mature understanding of the relationship of their specialisation and responsibilities to the directorate/Trust’s and NHS business as a whole.

Ability to understand the long‑term ("big picture") and short‑term perspectives of situations. Skills Able to work in multiple delivery styles (e.g. agile, iterative, waterfall). Excellent planning and organisational skills; able to manage own workload.

Able to work autonomously and demonstrate a high degree of personal motivation and accountability. Other requirements specific to the role Proficient in application configuration and development methods, techniques and standards. Understanding of principles and practices of good system design.

Excellent problem‑solving skills. Ability to quickly comprehend the functions and capabilities of new technologies. Track record of remaining unbiased toward any specific technology or vendor and being more interested in results than personal preferences.

Awareness of organisational CIP responsibilities and the opportunities the programme deliverables can sustain. Ability to work effectively in environments with often ill‑defined requirements, under time and cost pressures. Motivation that is focused on long‑term results.
