Job Description

Position Summary: Roe Environmental is seeking an experienced field technician with demonstrated success in supporting delivery of environmental services on remote construction projects for an immediate start.The position will be primarily project-based in Northern BC, with travel and accommodation provided. The role requires experience with erosion and sediment control, water quality monitoring, fish habitat and wildlife considerations, and the proven ability to work for extended periods in remote and rugged conditions.

Position Terms:

  • Full-time position beginning in August 2026.
  • Position requires shift work - typically 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off.
  • Normal working days are anticipated to be 10-12 hours with overtime paid per provincial standards (1.5x over 8hrs, 2x over 12 hrs).

Position Location: The position will be project-based in Northern BC. Accommodation and transportation will be provided.

Position Requirements:

  • BC-CESCL certification required.
  • Electrofishing, Swiftwater, and First Aid Level 1 certified.
  • Water quality monitoring and sampling experience.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills.
  • Strong data collection and field observation skills.
  • Experienced operating effectively and safely with minimal supervision in remote field positions.
  • Must be physically fit and capable of working consecutive 12-hour days on foot in rugged conditions.

Job Duties:

  • Providing environmental monitoring during active construction and in-stream works, including ESC and water quality monitoring, fish habitat monitoring and salvage, wildlife monitoring and salvage, and bird surveys.
  • Interfacing effectively with field team, contractors, and various on-site personnel.
  • Consistent collection and entry of high-quality field notes, data, and reporting content.

Preference Given to: Priority placement will be given to (1) Indigenous candidates with demonstrated experience, competency, and a good safety track record and (2) Canadian citizens/permanent residents.

Compensation:

  • $30 - 34/hour based on experience and training.
  • Per diem on travel days.
  • Overtime in keeping with BC Employment Standards.
