Job Details - Locum Tenens NP (Oakland, CA 94602) Location: Oakland, CA 94602 (East Bay / Bay Area healthcare opportunity) Position: Locum Tenens Nurse Practitioner, Critical Care / Trauma Nurse Practitioner Setting: Hospital - Level 1 Trauma Center (busy regional trauma center) Start Date: August 3, 2026 End Date: February 1, 2027 Duration: 26 weeks Estimated Weekly Pay: $5,040 - $5,400 (competitive locum NP pay) Shifts: 3x12-hour days (07:00 - 19:00); may consider 5x8-hour shifts Weekend Requirement: At least 4 weekend shifts per month Nights: Some night shifts required Coverage: Full-time locum coverage; no on-call required Job Requirements - Trauma NP / Critical Care NP Active Nurse Practitioner license in California (must have at time of submission) Board Certified Nurse Practitioner (NP certification) BLS and ACLS certifications required ATLS certification preferred (willing to obtain within 1 year) California DEA license Minimum 1 year of trauma experience required; Level 1 trauma experience strongly preferred Procedural experience preferred: arterial lines, central lines, chest tubes ICU experience, ED, neurosurgery, or orthopedics experience is a plus Comfort managing shock, acute coronary syndrome (ACS), stroke, and other critically ill patients Familiarity with trauma activations, emergency department workflows, and acute care protocols Proficient with EPIC EMR documentation preferred Responsive during credentialing (60-90 days) and able to meet hospital medical requirements (immunizations, physical, drug screen) Responsibilities - Trauma / Critical Care Nurse Practitioner Provide comprehensive acute and critical care to trauma patients from the Emergency Department to ICU and inpatient floors Manage daily patient load (20-25 patients split with resident) and care for up to 20 clinic patients as needed Participate actively in trauma activations (typically 5-12 per shift) and rapid response situations Deliver care across the age spectrum (typically 15-101 years) for injured and critically ill patients Perform and manage procedures within scope: arterial lines, central lines, chest tubes, and other trauma-related interventions Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including trauma surgeons, neurosurgery, ED physicians, ICU staff, and allied health professionals Document clinical care and handoffs using EPIC EMR to ensure continuity and quality of care Support coverage needs across the trauma department and participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives Why join us: This locum tenens NP role offers hands-on trauma and critical care experience at the busiest trauma center in the Bay Area.
